I want to find a dance song for my father and I, and I don't like country music at all. I don't like any of the ones w/ sappy words either, like "daddys little girl" or anything like that. It's just weird to me. I will always be his princess ... I want a cool dance song.

I really love Frank Sinatra, Frankie Valli and those kinds of songs.

I just googled "father dance wedding songs" and this was the first link I clicked on:

    http://www.nycityweddings.com/planning/wedding_songs/?Display=FatherDance&P=1

It has a lot of different songs, many of which aren't country and daddy's little girl-ish. They may or may not be sappy--depending on you definition of sappy--but it's worth a look.

But seeing as you may have already seen this list and not cared for it, since what I did, anyone could do, haha, Do you both have a favorite song/singer? You could go non-traditional and just pick a song that reminds you of your time together. Or just something that you both would love to dance to together. A newer song that I was thinking about for our dance was "Your Joy" by Chrisette Michele (it's a little sappy, but I like it). Good luck!

Or "Isn't She Lovely" by Stevie Wonder.  It's about his daughter, and there are a bunch of covers out there so you can find a style you like.

Paul Simon has a good one.  I think it was on the soundtrack to a kids' movie.  Not Rugrats.  The other one.  Anyway, my sister used that one.  (My other sister used a country song.)  I haven't decided yet.

You could use anything that you want for a Daddy Daughter Dance song. I would have used "Desperado" by the Eagles for mine (Dad passed away last May). I'm still playing the song but nobody will be dancing to it. :(

I thought of "My Girl" have  to run that by my dad! Its kind of ... boyfriend/girlfriend'ish.

    Omg I loved Wild Thornberrys!

Is Celine Dion cheesy? Will people think I'm a cheeseball? "Because You Loved Me" by Celine Dion is really beautiful though! I forgot about this song. ... and I don't associate it with guys ... Aren't there any NON country daddy daughter dance songs ??? : wedding father daughter dance 1 Icon Biggrin

Joe Cocker song is GORGEOUS. Its my little sister and my dads song though! It somehow became ... there song. Haha.

Daughters could be in the Top Five list for my Father & Daughter dance ... it's more ... my generation. It's so hard picking a song to dance to with your dad ... theres no cool songs that I grew up with, that I know of from my generation of music.

There are songs that remind me of my dad, I never thought of using a non-traditional one ... I will think of it.

I have a funny note to end on: When I was little my dad bought a jukebox + song for my dance recital for me ... it was such an important moment! Lol. I always think of him when I ever hear this song. Some Beach Boys songs remind me of him, the Monster Mash song definitely reminds me of him, Going to the Chapel and My Boyfriends Back ... we danced to those all the time on the jukebox. Haha. OOOH can you feel the love tonight from Lion King. We loved that movie when I was really little.

Thank you! Good replies. I'm playing them all on youtube.

Great ideas! my mom said there is this OLD song called "daddys little girl" that I HAVE to have. Whatever, we'll see. I don't want some hokey dokey song about me being his little baby or something. I'm just not into that. I told my dad i'm ok with him p;icking led Zeppelin and so he's trying to figure out if we're going to go rock n roll or traditional, lol. My dad's really into his rock and roll. Long hair, tattoos, plays guitars, etc. Kinda looks like a biker =]

My father and I (when I married my x) danced to "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong.

That song means so much more to me now than you could imagine.  Time stood still when I danced with him and I wish you the happiness I have and rememberances of the most wonderful father in the world because I think this song is perfect.

I lost my father 10 years ago this June.  How I wish I could dance with him once more.

So many sweet choices, I really like yours, Bellenga! I love that song. I'm torn between something traditional and something fun. My dad's kind of a fun rock n' roller dude, though. LoL, we'll see. He's already been asking if we're going to "rock out". Not sure if that means air guitar or what, though....=]

I am the SAME WAY! HATE country music. here are some songs I have found that are not country & does not have the "daddy's little girl" type lyrics.

You Raise me up - Josh Groban

You don't have to let go - Jessica Simpson

Cinderella - Steven Curtis Chapman (may not be your style but it is cute to listen too)

Wind Beneathe my wing - Bette Midler

You could also just dance to a classical instrumental piece too. there doesn't have to be any lyrics. its about the dance, the moment. but then again it also depends on your vision of your day too. I LOVE Josh Groban.  Good luck to you. =)

Aaah...my dad is a huge Joe Cocker fan. But we are both huge Gladys fans, so I'm surprising him with "Wind Beneath My Wings" by Gladys Knight. We both love "My Girl", but we've danced to that so many times, when I lived in Texas and they would come visit, that was our sond when we went out, so I want to surprise him with something different, and that song says so much about the wonderful, amazing dad he is to me.

We decided (tonight, yay!) to go with God Only Knows by the Beach Boys. Stayin' true to our California roots. Unfortunately Dad *hates* Billy Joel (wtf!) and does not want to support Elton John with Your Song. What a shame, I'm going to get my Crocodile Rock on later.

Please do not go with "Daughters" by John Mayer. It is a beautiful song. But like "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room", I wonder if people ever actual listen to the message in the lyrics. :-/

"Daughters" is about a guy who has fallen in love with a girl who is wounded because her dad walked out on the family when she was little and is pleaing that fathers think twice about how their actions will affect their girls.

It's pretty, but not really the image of my father I want to leave people with on my wedding day.

Pick a song that gives you warm fuzzy feelings about your Dad--that's all that matters! I agree that the cheesy narratives don't work for me either! At my wedding, people just loved how happy my Dad and I seemed and how much fun we were having dancing together--and that was because we were dancing to an upbeat song that had sentimental value to us.

We danced to Van Morrison's "Brown Eyed Girl".  It worked for me because I am his only brown eyed daugther (like my Mum) and he used to sing that song me to me when I was younger.  Plus, I find slow dancing with Dad creepy.  I don't mean to offend anyone but that's just how I felt personally.  It was way more fun to "joyfully boogey down!"

I am with you. I don't want the normal Butterfly Kisses song. I believe I'm dancing to Because You Loved me by Celin Dion. Its not just because of that but also because my dad always encourages me that I can do whatever I want and I really am everything I am today because my parents always were right behind me pushing me along. Ahh I'm so emotional right now, I'm crying posting this. Good thing Mr. M just ran to Lowe's lol.

We're dancing to Sinatra, actually... "The Way You Look Tonight." Our band is condensing our special dance songs down to about 2 minutes each, and we're hoping that they're able to do what my dad requested: just play the first and last verses with an instrumental interlude, because the middle verses are more romantic... the first and last definitely apply for father & daughter relationships!
