So after attending a crawfish boil today and gourging myself, I found myself covered in hives an hour later. After a painful trip to my doctor’s, I am diagnosed with a potential crawfish allergy. I won’t know for certain until I do a follow up to my scratch test. Why???? I love crawfish, and now I may potentially have to add it to the list of no-nos of “things I love but can’t have.” First it was peanuts (childhood allergy), dairy (severely lactose intolerant), and now this. Any other Bees allergic to something?

I don’t have any food allergies that I know of. But I am very allergic to all grasses and mildly allergic to mold, dustmites, pets, and trees.

I’m allergic to all seafood. In addition to the hives I get severe stomach problems when eating things from the water. With a FI from NOLA and a possible move back there, it’s a bit of a challenge.
I feel your pain, my friend. Sorry about your allergy!

@aliavenue…it sounds like your son could have leaky gut syndrome. Have you heard of it? Are these iGg or iGe allergies?

Thanks ladies. I’m sorry to hear about everyone’s allergies, but in a weird way it’s good to know other people can commiserate.
@MrsSaltWaterTaffy: I’m learning that Claritin is becoming my best friend. I used to take Benadryl, but it was making me too drowsy.
@OohShiny: Oh man! I’m actually from Southern LA and lived in NOLA for 8 years so i know what you mean! When I think about all the comfort dishes I will have to do without, it makes me really depressed esp when I go back home to visit. *Sigh* I guess I’m lucky to still have muffalettas and banana foster to get me through.
@aliavenue: My Goodness! Wow, your son is so brave to have to endure all these things. =( If I need any future advice, I’ll definitely PM you.

i have a slight allergy to bananas. they make my mouth itch. it’s nothing horrible or life threatening, it’s just annoying, so i still eat them occasionally.

I am allergic to artifical bananna and white chocolate; my FI on the other hand is VERY allergic to, well everything.
various fruits, including apples, mangoes and rhubarb
vegetables; including asparagus (can not be in the same room)
and the list goes on and on and on.
Basically He can eat beef, pork and chicken, rice and potatoes and drink water and beer.

@lilchicana: And bananas are such a power fruit. They have a lot of melatonin so they make for great sleeping aids and are great for curbing hunger. You’re so lucky you can still eat them. All my food allergies make me feel as if I’m slightly dying when I accidentally have them.
@Mrs.Goguen: Your poor FI! Does he find new ways to eat what he can have?

I’m allergic to latex and at this point, carry an Epi pen (and some Benadryl). It’s funny to me b/c I’m a sex educator. My mom is really allergic to kiwi and first had a really bad reaction at a wedding (had fruit salad) and ended up at the ER. A few days later, she was slicing kiwi and nibbled… ER again.

Although it’s not an allergy, I have celiac and can’t eat anything with gluten or anything that even touches gluten.

As far as food goes-
Lactose intolerance to cream, I can handle small amounts of skim milk, low fat/ fat free cheese and yogurt. Ice cream and whipped cream are the worst
Animals with fur
PENICILLIN- i get to wear a medical alert bracelet for this one. Anaphalactic reaction
I also have a plethora of sensitivities. I wear a mask when I clean and visit friends/ families who have pets. I’ve ended up in the hospital from pets on more then 1 occasion, so I just dont care what people think anymore. While I know it’s terrible for me, I take 1 to 2 Claritin 24 hour extra stregnth pills a day, depending on how bad my allergies are. They are the only pills that work for me, and I’ve pretty much tried everything. This doesn’t even hold a candle to my sisters and mothers allergies.
As far as comfort foods go, you’ll find something new to be your favorite 😛 Look at it this way, you get to explore new foods to fill the void!
Edit- And red food coloring, forgot that one.

I have cold uticaria = allergic to the cold. I get hives every single freaking day. I loathe summer because it means air conditioning. I think I’m the only one I know that brings a winter coat to work after winter is over 🙂
