There are always alternatives to save money.

We are not hiring limo drivers, but instead, we rented two large SUVs for the day to make sure the wedding party and parents all had spots in a vehicle. My mother’s boyfriend and another guest have graciously accepted to drive them.

I’ve found that I can still have most of the things that I want, while cutting back slightly to make the cost more reasonable. Just breathe. There is always a solution!

@clumsylawyer:  Money has definitely been a source of stress.  Everything costs SO much.  Even though we’re fortunately not going into debt for the wedding, sometimes I just think about what we could be buying instead of spending so much on the wedding….but then I’m like, hey it’s a once in a lifetime, very very special event!  So it’s worth it. 🙂

@clumsylawyer:  same with us, it is all savings not debt but then I worry as we rent and dont own our own house yet, and our wedding budget is almost half of our house desposit, of course we will still be making more money but it does make me freak out.  One good thing is we are having a DW so it will be a family holiday overseas and that makes me feel a bit better.

@clumsylawyer:  I totally know what you mean.  But just keep telling yourself it is literally a once in a lifetime event!  🙂

Yup, money is a stresser when it comes to wedding finances.  We’re not spending a lot on our wedding so I don’t feel bad about that… we also own our house.  But it would be nice to have extra money to more with.

The first step you need to do with your FI is to prioritize what you want. What matters most to you both? What matters the least? From there you should know where to splurge or where to save or cut. I was planning a wedding for April 2013 but like you I was stressing so much about money plus I was having my wedding in a town I was not familiar with and most of my guests were not even from. So I decided to re-evaluate my priorites. I know I absolutely had to have an outdoor ceremony/indoor reception. My parents have a beautiful backyard with a lake so we decided to have the ceremony there and guess what? It’s free! We booked a nearby hotel (5 mins away) for the reception.
