Obesity is not really a great indicator of health, it is a very blunt instrument. In the meantime (though of course all questions along these lines are very much a question of aesthetic preference) your figure is clearly lovely. Do what’s right for you. Obviously most of us could be healthier, and it would be good to be healthy regardless of whether you also managed to lose weight. Being slim doesn’t make someone automatically healthy, falling into an overweight or obese category in terms of BMI does not make you automatically unhealthy.

Wine (and alcohol generally) is empty carbs, you may as well drink bread. Changing your drinking habits may make a big difference, why not have a dry month or two (maintaining your other regular habits) and see what that does for you?

ne11y23:  You don’t even look overweight, in those pics, to me. And there is no way your obese. I think you look great!  And healthy!

But you said you drink a lot of wine. If you do wanna drop a little weight, drop the wine for a few weeks. My mom just lost 15lbs and she was a big wine drinker. She swears cutting out the wine helped her loose the weight. Alcohol can carry more calories than we realize.

Good luck and don’t get so down on yourself. You would look great even if your wedding was tommrow!

Hi! Let me say this. BMI is baloney. my BMI is obese too, and focusing on my actual weight has been a huge stumbling block for me to really getting healthy. I would obsessively work out for a week and eat low calories and my weight would go up a pound, and i would be depressed.

5 weeks ago I stopped weighing myself at the advice of my best friend and I focus on how I look and feel, and I just treat each day as it’s own separate little unit where all I have to do is make moderately healthy choices, be calorie conscious, and get a work out in (whether It’s a class, gym workout, tennis with my fiancé, or a run). And then I just trust that all these separate days of good decisions have no choice but to do something positive to my body. I haven’t stepped on the scale, but in 5 weeks I have gotten thinner than I have in at least a year!

so first of all- you actually look great right now!! And second of all- don’t focus on BMI if it distresses you!! It really is not accurate and if you can focus on being healthy without tracking it, I say go for it.

ne11y23:  BMI can be very misleading, but from your pictures, you don’t even look overweight.  I think you’re going to look gorgeous on your wedding day just the way you are.

ne11y23:  You are totally not “obese”, you look completely great! No BS! I’m generally the girl that – If I have nothing nice to say, I just won’t say anything. I cannot find any flaws in your pics. BMI is a bunch of crap on the whole. If you’re built a certain way that you carry whatever weight you have great, who gives a crap about that.  I never understood it. Anyhow, you have a wonderfully curvy body and you should totally be proud of it! You will look great on your day, before and after!

ne11y23:  I understand about weddings making you silly. I live it every day 🙂 hehe. But no you are not in denial. Your waist is small and your legs actually look really muscular! No way you are obese.

ne11y23:  I think your figure is great. I have lost lots of weight in the last year and am near my goal weigh and still don’t have a perfectly curvy figure like yours.

I completely understand wanting to improve on things but the biggest improvement you can make is deciding how you feel. If you feel good then keep doing what you are doing. If you really are truly unhappy then don’t underestimate how much better you may feel JUST from making a new plan and following it.

The weightloss and BMI scale and everything else are just an added bonus.

ne11y23:  you have great curves!! If weightloss is something you want to do go for it (I sympathise though as someone with a condition that makes weight gain very easy and loss hard) but I think you look good now too. I was considered obese a few years ago too by BMI standards and while I certainly was overweight, I wasn’t massive. I take BMI with a pinch of salt, it’s a rough guide but not the best indicator for many people.
