It's alright to feel freaked out about that! Which part of Northern AZ/Coconino will you be getting married? I got married right outside of Flagstaff and it *is* a beautiful place. My husband is out there right now working on the Wallow fire (the huge one burning on the east side of the state) & from what I gather it's a real b*tch right now. I doubt it will reach the Coconino area of the state, but I also doubt that it will be contained by the time you have your wedding. It will probably just be smoky in that area of AZ.
My advice - concentrate on those seating charts :) You'll definitely need them and I can tell you from experience, dwelling over it won't make you feel any more sane. Although I'm right there with you hoping the forests will all shut down to campers for a while. Did you know that fire was supposidly started by a campfire that wasn't tended to properly?! Uuuugh.
Wow... I'm really sorry your husband is out there where it's all happening. Hoping he will stay safe! I'll marry in Little America, which is by one of the forests on the south of the city. It is really beautiful. I thought about the possibility of fires, since it gets so dry, but this Wallow thing it's a real mess. Thank you so much for your comment---you are absolutely right... i can only control the seating charts and no more! it's just that relatives traveling are starting to email freaking out about where the fire is. Hopefully Wallow will be controlled and there will be no road closures :) :)
Thanks for your concern about my husband - he's safe though and I think he enjoys the adventure aspect of these things. Little America is a gorgeous venue! The Wallow Fire is - literally - a hot mess, but it definitely will not reach Flagstaff or probably even get any farther west than it already is (my husband says the winds are pushing it east). You can assure your traveling guests that the roads should all be open by the end of the month (unless maybe they're trying to come in from the east through the White Mountains). Have a lovely wedding day! Ah - I love the Flagstaff area!

Hi all...I don't know where else should I vent out my stress (and fears) without seeming shallow. But this is shallow! It's been a horrible year with natural disasters: Japan, Alabama, floods, tornados... with tragic human losses, and people seeing their homes and possessions vanish.
When I scheduled my wedding for June in Northern AZ I thought the weather would be perfect, and that my fiance and I would enjoy tying the knot with the Ponderosa Pines as a backdrop. Well, now AZ is all over CNN, the New York Times and everywhere because of the awful Wallow fire in the east border of the state. I care about human lives and evacuations... but I secretly hope it will all stop for the sake of my wedding. The massive fire is far from the forest where my wedding will be (Northern AZ/Coconino), but it definitely does not help to my already existing stress (2 weeks to go!). Now instead of going over seating charts I'm glued to CNN, Twitter feeds and state's fire location maps... praying they will kick out all the campers out of every single campsite and that nobody will smoke near my wedding venue... *sigh*
