I’m new to the forums here and in some need of advice. My boyfriend of 2 years proposed recently, I’m super excited. We plan on getting married in the spring of 2013. I am in the Army with a deployment under my belt. My beau is recently out of the Army and loathes the life style (he has done 2 tours). I was in the Navy prior and had a 10 year break in service, I don’t want to get out again, I want to retire. I’m 34, he is 26. Are there any other brides out there that are military that can relate at all?

Well I suppose I can relate to your FI’s position and maybe give you some perspective there. My husband is Navy and I didn’t want the military lifestyle at all, but I said yes to his proposal and married him and am supporting him because I love him and he means the world to me. Did your Fiance know that you wanted to retire when he proposed? If he did, maybe he will deal with the lifestyle for you.

@ThePrincessMaggie: Thank you for replying, we have talked about it over the last couple of years, I keep reminding him if I would have stayed in the Navy I could have retired in just a couple of years. I want to be able to support myself and not have to rely on his income. I am very proud to serve in the Army, and he is supportive, for the most part. I was injured in Iraq and he is afraid if I stay in I’ll get hurt again or possibly worse. I really dont know of any other military women with civilian SOs, Its a lonely place. This is a ‘mans’ military. I know I’m a minority. Military wives are there to share stories and lean on each other, there isn’t much of that for the women in the military.
