- Wedding: June 2010
Soon after I got engaged, three of my college friends decided they wanted to plan a weekend camping trip with Fiance and me to celebrate. I never get to see any of them (we’re a bit scattered over Ohio and Indiana) so I thought that was really sweet. We figured out a date that worked for all of us. At this point, Fiance and I were planning a wedding for next January.
Well, circumstances dictated that we moved our wedding date up to June. The date we had chosen for camping was the weekend before we’d be leaving for Connecticut to get married. About a week ago, Fiance asked me if maybe we could move the camping until after the wedding, to make sure we have time to get everything done and can go camping when we’re not stressed about the wedding. I agreed (since with camping, we’d be totally booked for EVERY weekend in June and we’re not the type to enjoy being super busy and social every weekend.) Plus, I think part of FI’s reasoning is that some of his guy friends want to take him out before the wedding, and he needs that.
So I asked my friends about it. (We have an email convo going.) At that point, everyone was being indecisive about who would call to reserve our sites. Anyway, 2 friends said sure, let’s reschedule. The third said, for various reasons, that she’s booked pretty much every other weekend that summer (although she only gave a couple of things as examples; one was a week-long camping trip in July, and she said that if they added another weekend, they’d pretty much be spending all of July camping….which I didn’t totally get.) She basically said to let her know when we were going and she’d let us know if she could come or not. Then one of the other ones jumps in and says she’s not available again until late August. By that point the nights around here start getting cold and we don’t have warm-weather sleeping bags. Plus, I’m running a half-marathon in mid-September and I’ll need to be doing long runs on weekends.
So I talked to Fiance, talked him into the June weekend after all, figured we could make it work. Now the same friend who’s not available until August says that she went ahead and made plans for that weekend but to have fun!
I’m annoyed! We were all good friends in college. I really wanted to see EVERYONE. I feel like they’re being really inflexible. At this rate, I’m about to say nice thought guys, but forget it. I feel like MY friends trying to plan something nice for me has turned into too much extra stress on me. This is why I don’t have many female friends, methinks.
