Let's put this out there first- I LOVE flowers. Like, love, love, LOVE. Lurve, even. I'm the jerk that buys herself a fresh bouquet of flowers (albiet, cheaper grocery store ones!) weekly to fill my vases in my ugly little apartment. So, you can understand why I may or may not have shed a single tear in my bedroom, all by myself when I looked over our teeny tiny budget and realized there was NO way I was having flowers at my reception.

With that said, what do I love as much as flowers? FOOD. Veggies to be exact. It get's weird from here on out, stay with me!

Last night I poured through countless books, magazines and websites with my mom trying to find a cheap, but crafty centerpiece I could pull off. I am hanging mason jars with candles allllll over the reception site, so I figured it might be overkill to do mason jar centerpieces. Then, I saw the coolest. thing. ever.

Artichoke Candle Holders. I know, you think I'm a weirdo! Deal with it!! :D

I am going to buy a few this weekend and make a mock centerpiece. I'm thinking they would look rad in a rustic wooden box that I could fill with rocks and have them sitting on top. Maybe a few terrcotta potted succulents around the box. Choices, choices.

Anyway- for real... am I being overly confident in how cool I think these look?

    Check these babies OUT!

I LOVE them! Are you using real artichokes because those can be expensive too.

Have you thought about using succulents as well? Those look really pretty AND the guests can take them as favors.

@KatNYC2011: YAY! Thanks! I will be using real artichokes- however, they won't be nearly as expensive as floral centerpieces. I would like to incorporate succulents in terra cotta pots around the main part of the centerpiece. You read my mind about some guests taking the succulents home as favors! :) I have a nursery right down the street that sells small potted succulents on the C-H-E-A-P!

Those are really cute! My favorites are the hollowed out ones with the candles down inside of them, they just seem to glow :-)

Can you post some of your finished projects?   They are really a great idea and I think it could be cost effective while looking really nice.

that's a great idea. we had artichoke-themed invitations and they popped up in our centerpieces, but these take it a step further and are really cute!

@missmouse29: I'm thrilled to hear that this is being received so well. Le sigh! I'm excited because my FI is obsessed with artichokes, so I think it would be a really sweet thing to incorporate in the theme.

@Lala61111: AWESOME! are you doing any other color with them? Im adding in just a HINT of pink and only in the bouquets - I'm doing succulents & eucalyptus with 1 or 2 Stargazer Lillies in them! : ) Thanks I am obsessed with the building cept it doesnt need much decorating inside.... no fun for me! LoL

I love those, but I might be the wrong person to ask because I love artichokes. The only issue I would have with these, is that I would want to eat it!

@emersynsmommy35: I am debating either yellow or a dark purple. I swear, I have a zillion ideas flowing right now and I'm changing my mind every second. I only have a few months left- I need to suck it up and make some choices NOW! LOL

those are so cool! When I saw this post, I thought you meant the artichoke flower- it's this pretty purple bloom. Like a PP, I also like the hollowed out artichoke with the candle inside.

Hey girls- just wanted to update that I have decided against the artichoke centerpieces. I have a business trip I have to attend and won't be home until the DAY BEFORE my wedding! Ahhhh! Therefore, I simply will not have time to do these when I had planned. :( I love them and I hope this post helped out other ladies looking for something unique!
