It is a super cute idea, but my only conceren would be how few people would probably be able to participate. Even if a silouette took only 5 minutes (which it probably takes longer) only around 30-35 guests would be able to be involved.
it wasn't for the reception, but I know someone who had a watercolor portrait made during her ceremony. It was neat because she painted everyone and you find yourself in the painting. Since ceremonies are usually short, she did all the initial sketching first, and then throughout the reception people could stop by and look as she put in the details, background, etc.
i went to a wedding where they had a silhouette artist. it took like 2 minutes per person, and they started it in the coctail hour and went throughout the reception. they used it for their guest book, they doubled up the paper so the couple got a copy of your silhouette too, and you signed the back of their copy. i really liked it in the cocktail hour because i'm always bored then, and we still have ours hanging in our bedroom.
penga: what a perfect idea! I have been looking into silhouettes and caricatures, but love the idea of a water color artist. so sweet!!
Do you have any pictures?
@almostduffy - I have some, but they're at home. I'll see if I can dig one up later. :)
lol that's not me painting..it was a pro at a wedding for a family member. :) I'm not that good! haha
One of my friends is thinking about renting a photobooth for the reception. I think a cartoonist sounds fun! As long as they are pretty quick! ha!
My husband Karl does silhouettes at weddings. It only takes about 2 minutes per person and every guest usually ends up getting one. They love to watch him work as well as having a wonderful keepsake.
I had a sketch artist at my wedding. I had 95 adults and 17 kids. She stayed until everyone that wanted a picture had one. She was great and everyone thought it was a wonderful idea.

Did any of you hire an artist for wedding reception? Like a cartoonist, sketch artist, etc? It seems really fun and I wonder how it went over, if guests liked it.
I thought would be cute to have a little station with an artist who did silhouettes! What do you think?
