You should have the option of ‘either or’

Honestly, I don’t mind either! as much as a nice plated dinner is great, a buffet is just as good most of the time (and you can dish as much as you want…tee hee, I am a food hog!)

Its what your budget will allow also!

I vote plated, but it depends a bit on the size of the wedding.  We just went to a 160 person wedding with 3 different stations.  I feel like that’s about the limit before the lines are so long it’s aggravating (they were already on the long side).  I went to a 600 person affair with two identical buffets…it took *forever* to get food!

PLATED! I’m a klutz; I don’t want the option of spilling on myself. 😉

I also kind of like the formal aspect of a plated dinner over a buffet.

I like buffet b/c I’m a bit of a picky eater.  If my dinner is plated for me, I am usually still hungry b/c I only liked one or two of the things on the plate.  If there is a buffet, I can take a bit more of the foods I really like.

I didn’t vote because my focus is really whether the food is good.  🙂  Honestly, I prefer family style over both of those, because you can eat as much as you want without having to get back up from the table to get more food.  Family style unfortunately wasn’t an option for us; I don’t know if it is for you, either.

I don’t mind either way – so I didn’t vote!  Food is food, and I don’t mind which way I get it! 🙂  I haven’t had to wait extremely long to go through a buffet and I’ve never had any bad experiences with plated dinner, either.

I prefer plated at a wedding. One, I too can be a klutz with food serving :), and because I feel like it allows guests to spend time together at the table. I’ve been to a wedding where people were up & down to the buffet and the tables were half empty throughout the meal. For me, I like the cohesiveness of everyone sitting down together to eat.

I like ’em both — plated for the formal touch, buffet because I like to take extras of my favorites!  But I agree with fizicsgirl that the size of the wedding makes a big difference.  Spending a long time in line waiting for the buffet is a bit of a drag on the party.

I like buffets because you have lots of choices!  My biggest issue with buffets is the long lines.  The best buffet I went had two areas serving food so the line was shorter and there wasn’t a big rush.   If this isn’t an option that plated is nice option.

Also, is there the option for family style??  It’s the best of both worlds.

Can I vote neither?  Haha.  I am such a picky eater that I usually end up hating my meal, even if it’s something I chose!  But I’m also lazy and HATE waiting to have my table "called" so I can go get my food.  We are having the food at our reception served family style.  So there will basically be a little buffet at every table.  You can eat what you want and leave what you don’t.  Voila.  That was the one thing I knew when we met with our caterer.  Haha.  I didn’t tell them it was b/c I’m picky and lazy though!!

I agree that I’d rather have GOOD food no matter what.  Brides never feel the need to splurge in this area but it’s so important to the overall success of a wedding.  But I chose plate b/c every buffet wedding I’ve ever been to the food has been lukewarm and the lines tooo long.

Yeah i’m not really a fan of a buffet.  it reminds me vegas, (the only place i eat buffet type meals).  it also feels a bit unsophisticated to me.  waiting in line, carrying your plate around, up and down to the buffet….all in a formal gown.  just doesn’t seem right.  I would rather spend that time at the table eating and chatting with people.  Also i find that buffet food never looks appetizing and of course there’s zero presentation on your plate.

I agree with some other ladies though, i’d chose family style over both plated and buffet.

i hate to even vote because i think guests should be happy with whatever you can afford, but i hate buffets. its probably the germs of it that freak me out most. i usually just watch people in line instead of eating when at a buffet and let me tell you, YUCK! There’s always someone that picks something up, smells it, and then puts it back. there’s always someone sick or sneezing…GERMS! Are people gonna serve themselves? How may guests?  I went to a wedding last year with 300 guests and one buffet line…it didnt go very well.  people get restless and angry when theyre hungry.
