Asking bridesmaids to buy dresses online?

Monk6552:  Haha, I don’t think that’s a problem at all! I actually ordered all four of my bridesmaids dresses online! My girls are from all over (literally all over the US) so I sent them the sizing chart, had them measure themselves, and then I ordered their dresses for them.

I got a great deal on them too! $30 each! It was a discontinued David’s Bridal dress that was only kept in a warehouse for online sale, not in a store. But once I saw it, I knew I had to have it! And good thing I acted fast, because they sold completely out two days after I bought mine. I’m glad they had all the sizes I needed!

And luckily my dress looks good on all different body types 🙂

Monk6552:  Can you find the same cut dress but in a different colour to try on in store? Most weddings I’ve been have done it that way – you try on the store sample in the style you want, and they order the colour. I’ve never actually tried on the exact colour and style of dress I’ve worn as a BM.  I ordered one BM dress without having tried on or even seen in real life anything and it was probably one of the best BM dresses I’ve worn.

Order as far in advance as possible (unless anyone is pregnant) to allow for returns if need be.

I’d say order them at the one year mark. That way you have plenty of times for returns and alterations, and can get an entire new dress without stress if needed. A year out isnt so far out. If they think they may gain weight/be pregnant/whatever between now and them, ask them to order a size up. They can always alter it down if they need to.

Monk6552:  Oh, 14 months is plenty of time. Ask your BMs what they’re comfortable with, but I wouldn’t order any sooner than 8 months.

donna morgan is a great choice!! the dresses are beautiful. although i did order our dresses thru a local store. we ordered them on jan 29th this year and received them last week (april 2nd). the girls at the store told me they usually take a 1-2 months to come in, i believe its because they are already made.  also if its possible have them go to a dress store to be measured and then compare their measurments to the chart on the donna morgan website. that way its as accurate as possible! hope this helps 🙂

Monk6552:  14 months or a year seems way too early. Do you even have your own dress yet? I’d see how long it takes to order/exchange/ship and probably ask them to order them no earlier than 8-9 months out.

Newly posting – I just wanted to say I got DM off the website (or had my 4 girls do that) and it turned out really well. You can check to to see if Nordstroms will take them back if you order them through Nordstroms so there is less return shipping fuss. Most just got them in 2 or 3 sizes to try multiples…My sister also did Ann Taylor dresses online that were great. Go with a reliable brand 🙂 Like Donna Morgan.

Monk6552:  My girls are wearing Donna Morgan bridesmaid dresses! I am from Canada and we went to Michigan to a Nordstroms where they could try on some styles – I wanted them all to choose their own too.  And we ended up all loving the Rhea (one shoulder style) they are gorgeous! I love them! All of my girls ended up ordering online and their site (if you order right from the Donna Morgan site) is SUPER fast.  I mean, one of my girls got her dress in TWO DAYS! And another in just 3-4 days! And that had to cross the border and everything! My sister (MOH) also e-mailed them because she wasn’t quite sure based on her measurements which size to order and she said they were FANTASTIC with helping her and super friendly.  I say go for it!!

LeonardLady:  That is a super cute dress!

Are the dresses likely to be discontinued? If not, then I would say 3 months out. That way people will likely be at the same size when they wear them in the wedding.
