My husband and I have been married for 3 and a half years now. When he proposed to me he proposed with a “starter ring”. We have been talking about upgrading my engagement ring and I was hoping to use the stone from the ring that my father proposed to my mother with. My parents have been divorced 24 years now and the ring has been sitting in a drawer for years. I was wondering if there is a delicate way that I could go about asking for the ring or if I should just forget about it altogether since she never offered me the ring herself. My mother and I have a good relationship but I still feel very awkward and almost inappropriate asking her for her old engagement ring. While my parents’ marriage didn’t work out, it would mean a lot to me to be able to use the ring they were engaged with.
