I want to do my own boudoir photos, and then have the album made using an online website. I was also thinking of getting him a nice bottle of whiskey:-) I am also on a tight budget, this is why I'm doing my own photos instead of paying a lot here for a photographer to take them.
Not sure what your price range is, but I would highly recommend boudoir photos. I just had mine taken on Sunday and saw a few on the photographers camera, they looked great, and I can't wait to get them. I know he'll love it. It also depends on the guy though, and if you think he'd like something like that.
I'm also doing boudoir. I'm using the same photographer that we are using for our wedding, and she's giving me a great price since she's doing engagement, boudoir, and wedding. They are so classy yet sexy, and I know that he will love them.
I'm a boudoir girl too! Our photog is making a "little black book" album out of it. brown chicken brown cow :)
Does he have any hobbies or sports that he likes to do? For instance, if he plays tennis, would he like a new racket? I"m going the traditional route and getting him a watch--darn your FI for beating you to it, lol.
@rachelm1083: What photographer did you use, if you don't mind me asking?
I am thinking of doing boudoir photos. I know I'm going to get him cuff links that are also lockets in which I'll put a picture of his mom who passed away.
I gave my husband a bicycle. He had been wanting a new one, since his old one was his high school ten speed.
I've thought about boudoir and I know he'd like it but I question whether I want to do this knowing the book would probably just sit in a drawer. I also looked at possibly season tickets for a sport but all of our teams here are insanely overpriced for tickets in general.
I may though look into getting a pass for skiing..he has said over the last couple of years that he wants to go more and if I get him a pass maybe he'll be able to do it, and depending on the price I can get it for both of us. It's only a seasonal gift and not a forever gift but it's a thought.
I am debating between watch, electric acoustic guitar, or something like an IPad (he is a Mac fanatic).
@marlew: I know some teams where we live offer a partial season or maybe like five select games or maybe you could do concert tickets.
Does he smoke? A nice box of Cuban cigars might not go amiss.
I agree with the other gal who asked you what he's in to. What are his hobbies? Does he like movies? Video games? Sports? What about:
his favorite band or kind of music, you could get him concert tickets to the next show that's coming to your area, Even if nothing is close you can make a little weekend trip out of it.
Does he like or need any tools?
Cuff links?
A flask that you have engraved with something special
How about reservations at a bed and breakfast thats a few hours away and a whole romantic weekend package. You could put a picnic basket together with wine and bubble bath, plus some other romantic "stuff" and get an invitation that you hand write in to say "You're cordially invited to a weekend getaway to ______ with your beautiful wife on the weekend of ______."
Not sure what you're budget is, but check out the website VRBO (vacation rentals by owner). You can find some amazing vaca spots and stay in a beautiful place that is way cheaper then a hotel. You can make your own meals with local ingredients and save money, you can even find places with hot tubs. THere's locations listed on there for all over the world. i found something super affordable to take my SO on a little romantic getaway for 4 days when he came home on leave from Iraq.
thanks so much to all of you for your great ideas. I'm going to do some more research and see if I can pinpoint something!
I have been collecting things since we started dating - movie and other ticket stubs of stuff we have done together, packets of matches from the odd restaurant we have gone to, facebook message convos from our first few months of dating, etc. I was hoping to use these items and a bunch of pictures of us and make a scrapbook starting at the beginning of "us"!
I am also considering a boudoir book as well, though at this point, I am not sure if I would DIY or get a professional to take them. I will have to see what happens!
For me...it is going to come down to how much time I have between now and then to get this done. I should really start now and just try to get through a little bit at a time.
@tynabee: I used Laurie Peacock as recommended by other Chicago Bees. It was one of her marathons. I brought my sister with and had hair & makeup done. It was a lot of fun.
Im giving him boudoir photos! My shoot is today!
Is your FI handy? Mine always wants big power tools so thats what he always gets!
It is tradition in our family to have a special knife to pass on (sorta like a wedding ring for the ladies, knife for the men.) My dad still carries his Grandfather's knife. So, I got FI a damascus steel knife with a pearl handle that is dressy, and I know he will love it and sort of treasure it, probably pass it on.
I'd love to get UFC tickets but I have to keep watching if they're coming back to Toronto or Montreal before I can get them. I'm going to keep researching other options too in case I can't get UFC tix.
We decided that before we left for our DW, we would buy ourselves a really nice DSLR camera... that way we can begin capturing the moments of our life together (before we are back to being frugle and prepping for a new home/puppy/babies/etc.) :)
Does he drink? I'm getting the FH a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue, which he's always wanted. It's the gift that keeps on giving :)
@AlmostMrsG: That's a great idea, my fiance' drinks JW black b/c I think spending that kind of money on blue is insane, I may have to copy you!
I bought my husband personalized cufflinks from Anne Holman.
Anne uses antique maps to create cufflinks with any city or town in the world.
My husband was born and raised in Austin, TX and I'm from Las Vegas, NV. We met and fell in love in Vegas, then moved to Austin! So for his wedding gift, I gave him cufflinks - one with Austin and one with Vegas. He loves them!
I'm not sure yet, but my most recent thought is a saxophone. He's never played, but has wanted to for some time and it's one of those things he hopes to learn to do one day. He'd never in a million years buy it for himself, but I think I can put a note on it to the effect of making all of his dreams come true (but less cheesy). He didn't like the idea of the boudoir pictures, unfortunately!
Update: After stressing myself out for weeks trying to figure out what to get for him, I found something. He was chatting a while back about getting a small charcoal bbq/fire pit for our backyard, so I'm hoping I can get one on sale now that it's end of season! Goodbye stress!
oh oh!! my FI just got one at Lowes for $60 (50% off)
We love it!
@babybluz - I went to Home Depot but Lowes had WAY more selection and I got an awesome one there. I hope he likes it!! Now I need to figure out wtf to get him for his birthday (which is 2 days before the wedding and he's turning 30!)

So I wanted to get something really nice for my FI for the wedding...not only are we getting married but it's his 30th birthday just 2 days prior to our date. Originally my plans were to buy him a really nice expensive watch, since he collects them, but he decided last month to go out and buy TWO that he saw on sale. There goes that idea.
Then his mom this weekend dropped the bomb that he already bought me my gift...and that it's really expensive, she doesn't even know where he got the money from to buy it. Great. Not only am I on a smaller budget but he already purchased mine??
He keeps talking about a new tv but I just don't have the $2000 to spend on a 60" that he wants. I thought about surprising him with a weekend away to Vegas or something but that's out of my price range.
What are you guys buying your man that is away from the norm?
