Hi Ladies! I am trying to figure out the easiest/best way to make this costume for Halloween. I have seen the costume complete on etsy but I don’t have the 300+ to spend on it. I am thinking there must be a pattern that I can adapt to look like the dress. I am pretty crafty and can sew fairly well. I have already found a blonde wig and I thought I could get the brooch/pin on etsy but I can’t seem to find it now. Any help is appreciated!!

What about this free one from Burda? Just make it longer. It looks fairly simple too. http://www.burdastyle.com/pattern_store/patterns/wrap-dress-072013

I would find a pattern for a simple maxi dress, or make your own pattern if you have a dress that you like, and alter it to make it look like this. Make the base of the dress with a deep sweet-heart neck, and then add the fabric that drapes across the bodice thru the brooch. I’m sure this fabric is just tied in the back, and then it looks like she has a cape of some sort. I would connect this “cape” to the straps at the back of the neck.
For the brooch, I wouldn’t worry about trying to find something exactly like it. Go to a craft store and buy a metal belt buckle. (The kind that is a circle with a vertical bar thru it) and then see if you can find anything dragon related (a pin, hairclip, brooch, etc.) that you can possibly attach to the belt buckle.
This would be a fairly easy costume to make…hmmm…Ideas!!

if you don’t want to start from scratch, you could find a prom dress at a thrift shop and use that for your base. Add straps made with the trim of your choice. Make the cape with the material from old sheer drapes ( you candye it to match of you want the same color) and the same trim for the arms .

Also, you might go to the goodwill store and see if they have something you could use as a base, and then add extra material to it…………uh, just read some of the other’s responses, and you’ve already heard this, lol. let us see it finished!! good luck
