Ok bees- Let's start with genre!! (Romance, action, drama, etc.) We'll take a vote and go from there ;]

I say ROMANCE because it's February! And that's the loveeee month!
Here's a suggestion for Romance...
Katherine by Anya Seton
Here's the summary from Amazon.com:
This classic romance novel tells the true story of the love affair that changed history-that of Katherine Swynford and John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster, the ancestors of most of the British royal family. Set in the vibrant 14th century of Chaucer and the Black Death, the story features knights fighting in battle, serfs struggling in poverty, and the magnificent Plantagenets-Edward III, the Black Prince, and Richard II-who ruled despotically over a court rotten with intrigue. Within this era of danger and romance, John of Gaunt, the king's son, falls passionately in love with the already married Katherine. Their well-documented affair and love persist through decades of war, adultery, murder, loneliness, and redemption. This epic novel of conflict, cruelty, and untamable love has become a classic since its first publication in 1954.
I like lrwedd's suggestion for a romance book. Cheesy romances don't really appeal to me, so this one looks great! I'll see if my local library has it.
I'm loving the idea of Romance since it's February!! Great choice!!
I would have to say my vote is for "Dear John" by Nicholas Sparks.
An angry rebel, John dropped out of school and enlisted in the Army, not knowing what else to do with his life—until he meets the girl of his dreams, Savannah. Their mutual attraction quickly grows into the kind of love that leaves Savannah waiting for John to finish his tour of duty, and John wanting to settle down with the woman who captured his heart. But 9/11 changes everything. John feels it is his duty to re-enlist. And sadly, the long separation finds Savannah falling in love with someone else. "Dear John," the letter read...and with those two words, a heart was broken and two lives were changed forever. Returning home, John must come to grips with the fact that Savannah, now married, is still his true love—and face the hardest decision of his life.

Hmmm... I'll try to open my mind to the whole historical romance thing.. I don't want to be the stick in the mud but... I'm going to peruse the possibilities also and see if there's another idea :P
@ Miss Chocolate - I actually thought about that book! I think it would be interesting because the movie just came out, so we could see the movie after we read it.
I like the idea of romance for this month but I have to agree that I'm not a big fan of the cheesy romance books.
Let's definitely add dear john to the poll! It doesn't sound cheesy and I want to see the movie anyways!
I'm a go for romance but not cheesy as the other bees have stated. Dear John seems good. The twilight books are great but I'm assuming most have read them.
I was looking on the Borders website, just browsing through their book list randomly, and came up with a few that I personally wouldn't mind reading. The all have something to do with love, whether it's 'romantic' love or not. Here they are:
Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah (friendship/drama)
Dear John by Nicolas Sparks (romantic)
The Pact by Jodi Picoult (romantic/tragic)
Time of My Life by Allison Winn Scotch (romantic humor "what if")
Perfect Timing by Jill Mansell (romantic humor "what if")
Just ideas :)
Are we going to put up a poll with five ideas, so that we can easily click on one tomorrow? Just checking, dont' want to miss voting if I'm just supposed to vote via comment.
yeah, we should make a poll! I wouldn't mind using okqueenbee's suggestions they look good!
So is everyone ok with using @okqueenbee's suggestions?! They all sound good to me... I can make a poll either tonight or tomorrow depending on what majority wants to do.
<3
A poll tonight sounds good. I will look up the books and decide what I want my vote to be. Be sure to include Irwedd's suggestion, it was nice of her to offer up and it sounds interesting too. Everyone get's a voice!
Most definitely! @irwedd's suggestion will absolutely be included ;]
I'll leave this discussion open for about 2 more hours before I make the poll...
I'm PSYCHED!!!
<3
YES! I want to join =) I also have been thinking about reading DEAR JOHN before I see the film, but all of those suggestions above look great! I am excited =)
Make sure Katherine is on the poll.... I'm up for reading that, I passed on dear john at the airport a few weeks ago, but I think I could deal with reading it as well. I can't believe it's taken a book club for me to actually sign up for a user account LOL
@what2bee- I will definitely make sure that everyone's suggestions are on the poll :]
@speechie- Absolutely!
<3
The Pact was good. Extremely tragic though (however the twist in this book of Jodi's made the most sense of all the twists she's wrote at the end of her books).
I'll peruse around and look at what's on my book to do list :)
I want to join!!! I would be up for a couple of the suggestions.
Join!!! Everyone is welcome!! We are going to take the poll in little over an hour, so if anyone else has any suggestions that would like to be included... feel free!!!
<3
I want to join too! I've read the pact, I personally wouldn't really consider it a romance, just a heads up. :-)
I would like to make a suggestion! The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society- Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows
It has a little bit of a love story hidden in it along with some WWII history. It's absolutely amazing!
This sounds fun! I'm a sucker for historical fiction, so my vote is for Katherine. But I'll vote for real on the poll.
Yay! I think this will be really fun :) I'm totally up for any other books that people want to add to the list as well, those were just some that caught my eye. It looks like several bees have already read The Pact, so I guess maybe we should toss that one out...?
Anyways, I'm totally up for voting on the poll!
Here is the poll :)
