Hello...i am just beginning to plan and make decisions on my fall 2012 wedding. I am on a limited budget. I thought that doing a destination wedding would give me what i wanted thinking i could never afford to throw a wedding for my whole family to my liking. know that i want something outdoorsy and thought about The Darby House but not sure that it was in my budget. The Grange Audubon Center was recommended to me and looks like a great spot. It is unique looking and i love what they do here. I want to know more about this place and take a tour. Any info you have would be appreciated.
It's a fairly new venue - so I've had trouble finding a great deal of info there. I think it's pretty affordable to rent the facility (especially if you are flexible about what day of the week you want to get married). You can chose to rent areas of the center, or the whole center and grounds - so you can do your ceremony there as well as the reception.
They have a list of approved caterers, which is currently being revised to a certain degree. They said it would be finalized within a month or so. As it is now, the list included Cameron Mitchell, L.A. catering, Metro, and City Barbeque...with one or two others I think. You can have alcohol but it must be served by a bartender associated with your caterer.
You don't really need to set up an official appointment to go see the center, you can just go any time they are open and walk around. (they're closed on Mondays) There's no admission fee or anything. A guy named Josh Cherubini is in charge of the facility rental, so I emailed him (through the address on the Grange center site) and chose a time when he was going to be there. When I went back to actually book though, I just asked the gal who was working at the front desk a bunch of questions. (She was really sweet and helpful).
I think it's an incredibly unique venue that you can make into whatever you want it to be. Plus, if you book in advance you get a discount on the facility rental, up to 25% (which I got for booking this month for a June 2012 wedding).
If you're interested, I'd recommend trying to get over there ASAP. Weekends in 2011 are basically gone (from what I understood) and they are already booking into 2012.
I've seen pictures, but I've never been down there! I actually have a prospective bride who's getting married there this summer. Hopefully I'll get a chance to shoot there and see how awesome it is! Congrats!
I love the park! My husband and I often ride our bikes down there. It was being built when I was planning, but I think that it would be a wonderful venue. I am excited to see photos of wedding there in the future.
Since you're not getting married until 2012, maybe after this year's wedding season you will be able to have more online insipration of the venue.

Hey Columbus ladies!
As of today I have a venue! I booked the Grange Insurance Audubon Center for June 2, 2012 and am so flipping excited! Any other bees planning a wedding there? I hadn't even heard of the place until a couple of weeks ago at the bridal show, but then I saw pictures online and fell in love before I had even seen the place in person.
If you're a Columbus bee looking for a unique new venue, you should totally check it out!
