We've got the location, caterer, rental company, centerpieces and colors picked out. I also bought my dress 3 months ago! It was a STEAL though! $200!! We haven't even started our STD's though! They probably should have come before the centerpieces but oh well. I'm setting my new years resolution to make sure I get the Save the dates out by Jan 15th. Oh and we still need to reserve hotel blocks because we're getting married in the height of tourist season in Upstate NY!
My wedding is also 8/22/09! I have the church, officiant and reception venue. I ordered my dress a couple of weeks ago and booked my photographer. I also met with my first DJ last night and have a bridesmaid's dress shopping trip planned for this Saturday.
I think STDs are the next step. We're trying to get them out by early February. In the meantime, I already know my colors so I'm looking at flower photos on the Internet for inspiration and will hopefully start talking to florists in January.
I'm pleased with how much I have organized already, but I do feel constantly behind - especially when I hear how far in advance some brides book their dream vendors. I think the wedding planning is exacerbating all of my very strong, pre-existing neuroses!
August 8, 2009 is my wedding day...
We have our cerimony and reception venue picked out and deposit paid (we are getting married at the same location as the reception venue and since the reception is at a hotel, we don't have to bring in outside caterers), we have paid the deposit for our DJ, have found the Officient we'd like to use(still have to put our deposit down), picked out our colors, I ordered my dress a few months ago, found the bridesmaids dresses I'd like to use, picked out our bridal party, found our photographer and booked her, I have made our Save The Dates and sent them out already to out of town guests (only because we are getting married durring tourist season and track season in upstate NY and no one would block hotel rooms for us and the hotels were already booking up for August a few months ago!). I think that's all we have accomplished so far!
Go August!!!
I'm 8/28/09!
So far I have my dress, picked out the BM dreses, deposit on the venue, dj and photographer and going over contracts with caterer, offciant, florist and bakery. The DIY invites/STD's are finished, the placecard holders completed and about 20 some wine bottles cut into vases or votives. We've also done a ton of research into house rentals for all the out of town folks.
I like your new year's resolution MissCamera! I'm right there with you!!!!
There seem to be a number of August posts on the board. I am confused..
Wow ladies! You are making me feel behind, which is great - I need the motivation! Hard to think about long, beautiful, relaxed August nights when I can't even gget my toes warm in the middle of the day :-) the only reason I have STD's out is because half our guests are coming to NH from the west coast - quite the treck!
So who else?
August 22!
We've got our venues, photographer, and florist are booked. I've got my gown, shoes and bridesmaid dresses ordered. STD's are done but not gone out yet. I still have to do all the DIY stuff for the decor and invites.
I'm curious where you guys are all going for your honeymoons? End of August is hurricane season in the Caribbean and I'm stuck trying to figure out where else to go that isn't too hot and not too far away (We've only got one week).
We're also getting married 8/22/09
So far we've done
Both venues, officiant, DJ, photog (we just got our e-pics back), BM dresses, my dress, tuxes, flowers, cupcakes (in lieu of a cake), started our registry, booked our honeymoon, got the hotel rooms blocked, caligrapher, and created save the dates (we're sending them Feb 22).
My mom and I have started to put together the necessary elements of our DIY projects including the favors, welcome bags and invitations. I threw down and got all of these things done because I'm in school full time and needed to get the stuff out of the way before classes started.
Strawberrybaby - have you checked hawaii or a nice mountain or western honeymoon?
Hi Luvbug6315, we're date twins! I am getting married August 8, 2009 in New York, too. We have mailed our STDs and posted all the information on our wedding website. I have my dress and went for my first fitting already (mainly to check the shoes I had bought). We have the stuff for our DIY centerpieces, we've contracted and paid deposits for our ceremony and reception venues, our caterer, photographer, DOC, and reception musician. We are holding a limited block of rooms for our guests (although some might have to look further out). Our bridal party is going gown shopping next month, but we've already chosen the outfits and colors. We have confirmed with our officiant. The biggest concern at the moment is designing the wedding stationery.
Holy moly! Apparently we're very far behind!
We're tying the knot on 8/22/09 and so far we have:
1. The venue and reception site
2. Dress designed and dressmaker hired
3. Cake design chosen (my oldest friend makes wedding cakes)
4. Bridal party chosen and asked
5. Started wedding website (but it's not even live yet!)
That's it! Still debating on colors, still setting meetings with photographers and tastings with caterers, hemming and hawing on invites, etc. I can't believe how organized most of you are! I've collected a ton of ideas, but can't seem to make up my mind on decor, flowers, BM dresses, etc.
Arg! Hope to get on track soon.
My next goal: STDs. Hope to have them out by Feb 1st.
8/9/09 in New York State
We got engaged 11/17/07. By the end of May '08 we had booked our ceremony/reception venue (which includes catering), DJ, officiant (my fiance's friend since second grade is a Rabbi) and photographer. We had the guest list mostly done, including gathering addresses. Plus we had booked our honeymoon cruise. We had our bridal party chosen, as well as color scheme and theme. And we registered for gifts.
Since then we booked our florist and had our engagement pictures taken. We made save the date cards and are going to send them out by the end of January. We picked out our invitations, just have to finalize the wording and then we will be ordering them. I ordered my dress and veil November 1st, and will start looking for bridesmaid dresses in January or February. I have my wedding headband and jewelry, but I'm still looking for shoes.
Next things high on my agenda: decide if we want to reserve a block of hotel rooms, get the save the dates sent out, order the invites... and send out the info to have our wedding announced in the local newspapers. Also have to decide on centerpieces, but I think I have time for that.
I'm blogging my progress (thebride2b8909.blogspot.com), anyone else doing this? I'd love to read all about it!

Hey Ladies!
Wow, why is 8/22/09 so popular? That is my date too! We were originally going to do 12/31/08 but postponed due to a variety of reasons, so we have almost everything done, except vendors that we are changing (cake, namely). We aren't doing new STD's, or getting different BM dresses (which is kind of a bummer since they are quite formal and black, but I can't make the girls re-buy dresses, and I can't afford to buy them for them!).
We also just changed the date of our honeymoon so we are going to St. Lucia- which is a bit scary now that it's Hurricane season but we're keeping our fingers crossed, I guess!!
I'm just curious for the other 8.22'ers out there, what were your reasons for picking that date?
Hi all,
I'm impressed by how organized you all are! I'm 8/1/2009. We have the venue, florist, photographer and DJ booked.
I'm seriously delaying in trying on dresses as I'm not looking forward to trying to stuff my body into a sample size. So, I guess I'm going to have to confront that issue soon!
Luvbug6315- where in upstate, NY are you getting married? We're getting married August 1, and we havent booked our room block yet! You made me nervous saying they started booking up months ago! Ahhh! Guess that should be THE next thing on the list!
Aug. 22 here as well!!
We picked the date because it was close to the anniversary of our first date, I work at a college so it's still a bit low key at work at this time of year and it worked out that it's not super close or the same date as a wedding anniversary to anyone we're really close to. We did find out, however, that someone from my side and someone from FI's side will be having a birthday that day.
This is what I have down pat so far: the venue, photographer, DJ, my dress, chapel is on site, just finished STD's tonight, invitations, programs, color scheme, guest list, my wedding band and custom logo.
We're on a really tight budget so I'm doing a lot of DIY and having no bridal party (which is saving me so much $$ and time). I've seen a lot of great options for DIY centerpieces so I'm focusing right now on really trying to pick one out. We also have to get going on picking a officiant.
I'm August 29 and wow, have nothing done compared to you guys! We have the ceremony/reception venue booked, sent STDs, lots of ideas, and that's it! Colors are chosen, we know the look we want for flowers and cake, know who we want for officient and DJ (friends), I've tried on some dresses but no One yet... I guess I've been putting stuff off til after the holidays, and now I need to make a new years resolution too!
i am getting married on 8/09/09 and so far i have:
1. location for reception/ceremony
2. dress
3. dj
4. photographer
5. makeup/hair
still finalizing
1. florist
2. invites
3. wedding pary attire
My date is August 29, 2009. So happy that it's finally 2009!
What I've done so far:
Ordered my dress, put deposit on reception site (includes catering), florist, and dj, started designing wedding website, reserved block of rooms at hotel, picked out bridesmaid gowns, started regular meetings with our priest and will attend a pre-cana class for our Catholic wedding on 2/28
Next steps:
Waiting for contract from photographer, just picked out STD and will send out by 1/15, will meet with music director at church this month
Just wondering - how many of you are planning on using a videographer?
August 22!!I am so jealous of all of you! all i have is a groom :), reception venue and a list of friends who want to officiate. oh yeah, and color: turquoise
we have been engaged since june 4 (day before my birthday), and i haven't been able to settle on all my options. i have tried on easily 100 dresses, and not been satisfied with any of them. i look at pictures afterwards and hate them all. i can be so indecisive. i really like parts of dresses, so i have decided to have a family friend (who has made all of my formal dresses) put together the dress of my dreams.
FG is not a fan of flowers, so we might just order some small things from Downtown L.A. and pick them up the day before.
we made the great decision to buy a house the same year we get married, so my wedding budget is practically nothing, which really inhibits my creative juices. which in turn really discourages me to really jump into planning because there probably is no money in the budget for whatever cool new thing the Bees are doing.
Cheers to all 8/09 brides and even more to 8/22/09 ones!!
are there any other august L.A./O.C. brides out there?
I'm an 8-1-09 bride. I love the thought of getting nice and tan all summer before the wedding. (I am in Michigan.) I have everything as far as vendors done. I am not doing save the dates. I let my immediate friends and family know the date in my Christmas cards.
Yay Crash! We could be task twins :-)
I chose the 22nd because
1) it allows my inlaws a vacation at a good time (one is a teacher)
2) its my moms luck number
3) i LOVE late august, and can serve all sorts of local/delicious/fresh produce!
4) (most important) in time,, August will be an easy vacation for us and the planned family. hopefully we can try to mesh family vaca and celebrating into one, because otherwise, we may be so busy/broke we won't have another opportuinty!
We had originally wanted Sept. 12 as our date, but had to reschedule after our church got unexpectedly booked. It turns out August 22 is the better date for OOT family members with young children who will still be on summer vacation then. One of the groomsmen is overseas and our wedding happens to fall during one of his few scheduled trips back to the U.S., so that's a relief. And another one of my FI's best friends would not have been able to come in September because of a new job.
As a bonus, I recently realized that by taking the honeymoon right after the wedding, I get a "free" vacation day because of Labor Day! Yay.
Hi <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: tahoma; font-size: 13px">LBbride82209 & mandeeuk I'm also in the OC and LBBride82209 I'm getting married on 8/22 also only my wedding is in SD.
Do I count as an OC bride if I live in OC but my wedding is in SD?
HelloPanda i realized the Labor Day holiday earlier this week! Isn't it awesome?
We're 8.29.09.
Mr. MagPie and I have all the "big" stuff down, and are moving onto the deets -- BM dresses, hair & make-up, transportation, STDs and invites...and the dreaded second payments for our vendors.
We're 08.08.09. I love saying it. We're getting married on the NJ shore, near the city. We actually wanted September, but good friends of ours chose Labor Day Weekend as their wedding date; we had to consider honeymoons for both them and us. We realized we needed a 2-week cushion, before and after their date, and decided that we didn't want to do late Sept.
We have the ceremony & reception venue, and with that, the catering. I have ordered the STDs and will send them by the end of the month. We are very close to hiring a DJ.
The photog and DOC will be next week's tasks. As far as everything else, I've got Google docs coming out of my ears filled with "wedding ideas." Time to get my rear in gear!
Argh, fiance' and I just chose Aogust 08, '09 last week--I have a lot to get done! I have the officiant, I know who is doing the cake, the wedding party was just notified, and we have made the guest list and know what menu we want, but not which caterer! I REALLY feel behind now!
We're gettin hitched 8/8/09! We've:
-booked ceremony site, deposit
-selected officiant
-booked reception site, deposit
-DJ, deposit
-Photographer, deposit
-rehearsal dinner site, deposit
-gown is ordered & arrived
-BM dresses done (they chose their own)
-picked out tuxes but have to go try them on
-STDs made but need to be sent out (doing it electronically)
Nice to see it all written out like that!! We've been engaged for nearly 2 years already though, so we've been able to move slowly and get a lot done by this point :)
Me too....We're August 29th 2009
I've been lagging so badly in planning even tho the Mr thinks i'm spending too much time thinking about the details. so far we have:
-ceremony and reception site (one spot with catering provided too)
-photographer
-videographer
-florist
-bridal party
-colors
-DJ in mind
Still so much to do! and to top it off, we're planning a So Cal wedding from NY/NJ! argh.
I guess I'm the only 08.15.09 bride out there! So far I have booked the reception site and ceremony site, bought my dress and booked the photographer! We actually just booked the photographer today and I am SO excited about her. Check out her website at www.audreysnowphotography.com. I'd love to hear from some other 08.15.09 brides!
