We can not figure out what we want to do either. I have a fear of being on a plane so that crosses ALOT off our list we are either going to stay close to home and do all the "tourist" things we never have time to do and just have fun being together or do a cruise.
We are also trying to figure out where we want to go! Our first option was costa rica... but then we found out august is their rainy season, and to be in a rain forest during their rainy season doesnt sound too appealing! what time of year did you visit there?
I think we may end up doing a secrets or sandals all-inclusive, and just purchasing travelers insurance. Our other option right now is a mediterranean cruise, but the only reason we are deciding against that is because it would be so busy and we kinda just want to relax on the beach with a drink.
I never realized what a tough decision it would be to plan a honeymoon around this time of year! I'm sure it will all work out and we'll have fun no matter where we go :-)
Hawaii for us! We always wanted to do St. Lucia until we discovered August was peak hurricane season!
PLUS- August is Hawaii's slow season- so you'll be able to snag lower rates and avoid crowds!
@banana825: I went to Costa Rica the last two weeks of April and a little into May.. So right at the beginning of the "green season". and it was great, still nice weather and not overly hot and hardly any rain. For our vacations we typically go to the area just before their rainy season since its cheaper then and not as busy. I definitely recommend the area though its gorgeous and lots to see and do.
Damn hurricane season!
@StephyD216: I did not know that thanks for that info will look into it!
i agree and we were thinking about Hawaii, then a cruise, and for the reasons you point out, we didnt book it. we are going to Las Vegas. not my first choice i must admit, but i am sure it will be ok
We're going to try to go to Turks and Caicos but it may end up being to expensive :o( We've alread decided to postpone the honeymoon a month because it's cheaper, and my MOH is gettig married in September. We'll see what happens, hopefully T&C works out because the Beaches resort looks amazing!
If you want Mexico, stick to the west coast. We went to Puerto Vallarta for our honeymoon and Cabo for our anniversary and it was sunny and hot!
We are doing our honeymoon in November instead of right after the wedding. We want to go to an all inclusive, so we would like to go when the weather is crappy here! Not sure where we are going to go. It's always been my dream to go to a Sandals resort (I'm leaning towards St. Lucia), but nothing is set in stone. We are just going to take a few days holiday after the wedding, probably at the resort we are getting married at.
I think we are going to Canada for a few days, then on to somewhere hot - maybe Bali? I love the idea of Bora Bora too.
I agree about Costa Rica. The rains are not all what people think. They are warm and come in the late afternoons. They don't seem to get in anyone's way! We loved it there. Found this awesome All Inclusive. they were so helpful. They answered 100 questions and made it all very easy. The place was like a dream and had everything we both wanted. <3

Have an incredible time wherever you go!
I think we are going on a cruise or to las vegas. i'm not sure yet. he keeps changing his mind
I think we did decide on Hawaii after all now haha. There are a few things we want to see and be able to hop around to the different islands.. Plus its cheaper for airfare for us and not that far to travel compared to the other areas.. I was really looking at Bora Bora or Fiji for a while but airfare is soo expensive.. Just that alone eats up a big portion of our budget.. and anywhere else the weather isn't the greatest because of the time of year.. So we can do our caribbean trip another time ;)
if you go to Las Vegas let me know.....i will be there for 12 days from the 14th! we could have a coffee.....
My FI and I have planned on going to Kauai for our honeymoon. We are postponing it a few months though so that we can save some more money to get back on our feet and to also be able to afford the wedding more.
I think we're doing Hawaii as well. I've been there a couple times (Oahu and the Big Island), but FI has never been and really wants to go. We're looking at Kauai or Maui.
@Melanie11:I have never been to Hawaii as well, but it's been a dream of ours. I heard Mauai is more romantic and Kauai is more....outdoors. We enjoy the outdoors. We like hiking and stuff so it seemed like a perfect fit.
I'd look into what each island has to offer. I was not interested in Oahu because I think its too busy and populated. It's not what I think of when I think of Hawaii I don't think of big city
We are going to try and do 3 islands over two and a half weeks.. A couple of days in Waikiki to shop and do the touristy thing.. Spend a few days on Big Island so we can see the Volcano Park and the black sands.. and the rest of the time on Maui to relax and enjoy the sun and beach.. Kauai is a beautiful island I heard but my parents told me there isn't a lot to do there and you can get bored.. My DF has been to Maui many times and loves how its more laid back than Oahu.
I wonder if any of us will bump into each other if we are going to be there at the same time ;)
We're going to Hawaii too. Obviously we're getting married on Maui but then we're going to Kauai for the honeymoon. There's a lot of interesting, adventurous stuff you can do in the jungle there. Lots of hikes and also something like a Grand Canyon. Really cool!
@SportsGal: I was thinking that too! Seems like Hawaii is the place to be in August 2012. :-D
@MademoiselleL:that is exactly what drew me to Kauai! I actually worked at the Grand Canyon, so it'll be coool to experience their grand canyon. I love hiking and sight seeing, so it seems like a perfect fit for me and my FI
If you really like the idea of the Caribbean, then I think Aruba doesn't get hit too hard by hurricanes and is beautiful at all times of the year. I don't regret getting married in August at all but it does limit our choices of honeymoon a bit! We're going to Africa, and because it's winter there we still had to make some choices.
I think Hawaii sounds great too!
Hey all! We are having a mini-moon directly after the wedding (2-3 days max) at a currently undecided location. For our actual honeymoon, we are leaving Dec 31st on a 10 day cruise in a suite room :) Cant wait! New Years plus honeymoon celebration!
We are spending a couple extra days at our wedding location (Mackinac Island, MI). It's a vacation spot for many families and I used to go there growing up, but we are postponning our honeymoon until March because we would like a little extra spending money :). If we went to our honeymoon directly after the wedding, like we planned, we wouldnt be able to rent a car, do anything fun, but stay inside the suite. Now we are postponning it and have several months to save to get back on top after the wedding and its gonna be our honeymoon, valentines day, birthdays (him in Feb, mine in March) celebration type thing :) It's sad, but it's the only thing logical. I'm also planning a Trash the Dress session in Kauai when we go (not actually trashing my precious dress though)

Hey bees,
For the gals having their wedding in August 2012, do you have any ideas of what you where you want to go for your honeymoon?
I find a drawback to having a summer wedding is that it is in the middle of the hurricane season in the Caribbean.. So typical places like Mexico, Jamaica, Dominican etc.. can be a bit chancy if you want to go there at that time of year. Same with a cruise around there, I don't want to get sea sick or miss a port of call. Does that bother you? Would you still go to those areas?
We are thinking Hawaii.. Which seems nice but I'm kinda wondering if we should do something more unique or adventurous.. I've already been to Costa Rica and Thailand, and he just came back from Africa.. Not entirely sure yet.. At first DF wanted to do an all inclusive but we don't want to take a chance with the hurricane/rainy season.
I'd especially love to go to Bora Bora or Fiji but those are pretty expensive :( We are trying to keep it under $5,000 for the two of us for maybe 2 weeks.
Just wondering if you thought of anything yet!
