I just sent out the dress email to my BM's last night! I'm having them pick their own dresses in the same color, so this will give them plenty of time to shop around, take advantage of any sales that come up in the next 10 month, etc.
I only recently (about 3 weeks ago) got mine, and wanted to wait until then before even thinking about theirs...I've talked to my girls and we have colours and style we all like, but are probably going to wait until after xmas to shop....I wanted to wait until after the holidays so they hopefully won't be so money-stressed.
I just called Alfred Angelo and they told me it takes 10 weeks to get in...so I guess it doesn't matter to me...whenever they want I suppose. Maybe in January I'll have them order it.
I picked them out with help from the BM (well all but one) they are getting them from DB so we have awhile but my girls will be wearing this dress all in different colors :)
I haven't really been thinking about them yet. The earliest I would oeder/start looking is January
I haven't even officially asked my girls, yet (cards are in transit as we speak, however), but my 'MOH' is coming to visit today, and I think we might take a gander around, just for giggles. The girls are spread out world-wide, so the sooner they get them, the better.. I'll probably e-mail them in a week to let them know.
I officially asked my Matron of Honor last week but she's had the dress for a while. I bought a JCrew dress last fall on final sale and after a gift card it only cost me about $28. It didn't fit me and I gave it to her. I said "If it fits you can keep it buuuttttt you can't wear it until the wedding as your MOH dress." It's a light berry color, the Sophia Silk Chiffon dress. It will go nicely with my beach themed wedding.
PS She's the only one standing up for me so no worries about any other dresses!
My MOH just bought hers this week. My BM will buy in Feb. JBM will purchase early spring. We can do this as the dress is a vintage repro that has been around and will continue to be without problems. No dye batch issues either.
I haven't picked mine yet! My FSIL is a bridesmaid and she just gave birth last month, so I'm giving her a bit of time to shrink before shopping :) We are going to go together (it's just her and my sister) and I'd like to choose the same dress for both girls, with their input. So far, all of us like this kind of style. The colour will be coral.
I sent out my Save The Dates with personalized letters to the wedding party.
In the letter, I just asked my girls to get a black chiffon dress... short/long, halter/strapless... it doesn't matter. I told them to remember for comfort that August tends to be a hot month where the ceremony and reception will be held.
They are going to buy their own from wherever.. hopefully they catch some good deals after New Years when stores start sales on the NYE formals :)
I told my BM's right after I had decided the colors. They were to find something tee-length, grey (I gave them a swatch) and to send me a pick when they found it. They had plenty of time, I told them they didn't have to find it at a bridal store (I dislike the look of most BM dresses). In about two weeks they both had dresses and shoes! My sis found hers at H&M for about $30, and shoes were shoes that she already had. 
and my other BM found hers at JcPennies and bought mary-jane heels at DSW
I am planning on including my FI's neices and nephews in the wedding so I probably will have two Jr. Bridesmaids and a flower girl as well. I am planning on making there dresses, but closer to the date so they don't grow out of them!
We'll be starting the bridesmaids' dress shopping in February. I picked a color (navy, well actually it's called "midnight") and they can pick the dress they like in that color.
We're doing all Amsale gowns in charcoal chiffon. They are all picking their own style though (Amsale has a gazillion long gowns in chiffon - I chose it so everyone could have a different gown that they felt comfortable in and that worked with their body type). Im hoping everyone will have them ordered by mid-Feb.

Same here, I'm glad my girls can pick their own dresses that they feel comfortable in. And mid-February is also my timeline for the dresses.
We are going with the Dessy Twist/Wrap convertible dress in cocktail length. I just asked them to have it by June, because they likely won't need any alterations or anything. Most of them have already ordered it though.
We just finally picked out the Bridesmaids' dresses last weekend at Davids Bridal. I even tried it on as well and its really light and "fun" because of the chiffon. Should be in at the end of March.
@SportsGal: LOL, I CHOSE THE EXACT SAME DRESS!! We went yesterday and (shockingly) all 3 girls adored it....it is SO flattering, with the ruching. We got it in the Lapis colour.

@abby_mb: Where are you going to get them made? We have fallen in love with an expensive bridesmaid dress and were thinking about getting them made too.
@eagle: we have two options:
First, one of my bridesmaids said that a lot of her family has ordered dresses from dhgate and they turned out amazing. So we are ordering one dress as a trial and if they dont work out then 2. I am taking them to a seamstress I trust and have been going to for a couple years and have her start them from scratch.
all the girls ordered theirs about 2 weeks ago now and most of them have arrived! we got them from modcloth.com! here is a picture of all 5! (the black belt will be removed on dress #2)
Went to pick out bridesmaid dresses with my girls on Saturday, and all of the dresses are ordered! It was so much easier than I was expecting. I was going to have them all pick out a different style dress but in the same color and fabric, so they would all feel comfortable, but they all ended up loving the same one, so it worked out.
They should be in sometime in March or April :)
BM dresses were actually done first out of pure luck they had the exact dresses I wanted for the theme we wanted Celtic Puter Emerald Green... amazing colours with Cream.... Was so thrilled as we got an amazing deal. In Ireland the bride pays for the BM dresses...and the sizes they had fit them perfect!!! Brilliant!! and the girls love them.

@sara_tiara: That's awesome! What can we say, we have good taste haha :) Plus being Canadian we both decided to take a trip down to the States since I wasn't impressed with what we had up here, that was affordable. Lapis is a really nice color! and I agree the dress was flattering on most girls and it has nice details done to it. I don't care that it won't "match" my silk satin dress, I just want them to be comfortable.
I am so Type A. So, I really wanted the dressed picked out early. Plus, when I was in my brother's wedding I felt like we were rushing and a lot of the dressed didnt fit.
When I picked out my dress a girl came out wearing the BM dress and I LOVED it!

All the girls have theirs purchased!
Here are my bridesmids, my younger and older sister. In versions of the dresses they got. The styles are the same but they are David's Bridal plum. They are already ordered, arrived and hanging with my wedding dress in the closet. :)
