We're getting married this year! Whats on your to do list this month?
Mine includes:
Working on the invitations. The wording, the font, and getting them sent out (our guests are impatient, so we're not adhering to etiquette!)
I'd like to find my veil :)
I can't believe it is 2013 already, in less than 9 months we all be married Bees!
I am so excited even though August is still pretty far out!! I am definitely feeling overwhelmed with planning because I have been doing most of it with FI helping here and there. But I know it will be well worth all the work that is being put into our wedding planning!
January To-Do List:
-Get save-the-dates ready to mail out first or second week of February
-Decide on veil, whether I am keeping current one or exchanging for matching veil to my dress
-Blocking out hotel rooms for our out-of-town guests
-Following up with our baker and getting contract from him
-Start to look at accessories
-Going on 6 month diet to lose 10-15 pounds before wedding
-Start looking at gifts for bridesmaids
-Buying postage for wedding invitations and Save-the-Dates
-Nail down theme for our wedding, thinking of vintage but not sure what era...do you have to have an era? (I am thinking lace, pearls, classic)
-Look at floral designs
-Start browsing invitations and narrowing down some choices
-RELAXING!

Well I am buying a dress this month lol! I just booked our dj but I need to find an officiant still. I feel like I'm pretty on top of things at this point, just need the dress lol!
@Firemansgirl: I think finding the dress is the most fun part of wedding planning! Good luck and hope you say "yes" to the dress this month!
@lovelylight99: thanks so much! It's definitely fun but a tad stressful! Lol
@Firemansgirl: When I shopped for my dress, I found the best thing to do is look at some dresses online and try to find ones that match your style or what you are looking for. I tried to think of styles of dresses that look good on me like empire waist or a-line, etc. Make some printouts of those styles of dresses and take them with you dress shopping. Or if you are going to a place like David's Bridal or Alfred Angelo, place them in your favorites. I would also recommend not bringing more than a couple of friends with you when you go at most or your mom and your MOH. It seems to me the more people you bring, the more stressful dress shopping can be because everyone wants to give your their 2 cents with their opinions. Trust me, when you find the dress you will just "know". Funny thing with my dress when I found it was that it was my 2nd dress, the first dress I got I didn't feel like it was the "dress". Keep an open mind with styles too, you never know what looks fabulous on you! The dress I ended up buying was not the style I originally had in mind but I love it!
@lovelylight99: Thank you for the advice:)! I went shopping last week and found a dress I love but I have 2 appointments this Saturday! I had 7 people wanting to come shopping but luckily one of the stores allows only 2-3 so just bringing my mom and sister:)
@Firemansgirl: Awesome! I would definitely be looking at more than one store! Yes, definitely good idea only to bring a couple of people with you! 7 people would have been way too many people for me! LOL Have fun at your appointments!
I am so excited its 2013!! For January we have on our list:
And I think that is it, we have all the major things done so we are in a really good spot.
Argh, I don't know what to do. I just might have lost a BM (I posted about it, but TL;DR she put in her time off request and her new supervisor told her no).
- Decide on accessories
- Get back into working out
- Juuuuuuust reworked our invitation wording (sounds so much better now)
- Find out wtf is going on with friend's runners she used (apparently her mom has them and she is taking FOREVER finding out what she did with them!)
- Stress out about paying for the reception because no one will give me a straight answer
- Try not to kill FI every time he mentions the wedding/being invited/+1s for people who are not invited/are not getting a +1
- Keep working on DIY stuff
- Get in touch with my cousin who's baking our cupcakes
- Try to figure out a date we can do our second tasting since I've been hounding FI for two months for his coaching schedule and am getting nowhere (not totally his fault). If not, FI is on his own choosing between the pork he did have and the fish that he didn't (I hate both and think he should choose something else, but I made my entree decision)
#1 priority this month (more like THIS WEEK) is print out the MASTER TO DO LIST and hang it on the wall. And stop putting everything off! AWFUL.
And... I think that is it! For now. Gosh, I feel so behind right now, and just don't feel like doing anything about anything right now. I want to take off a week each month from work (or maybe just a day) to start actually getting stuff done and making all the calls and shenanigans that need to happen!
New year, hopefully new attitude and more motivation!
Now that I'm back from Croghan and slightly less frazzled...
So much to do!
1. Get all guest addresses! I've started this but only just.
2. Send out the Save the Dates.
3. Finalize Invitation wording and order!
4. Book florist - I have a consultation on saturday!
5. Get MOH dress. Giogn Sunday to shop! Hopefully we'll be able to get that done in one session, but you never know. I'm thinking taupe/gray chiffon, and girly.
6. Spend a day practicing hair styles so I can narrow down my hair piece choices.
7. Book reception musicians. Like for reals.
8. Write out mock up of ceremony to run through and edit.
9. Investigate hotels for guest blocks. Get some price options, figure out numbers.
10. Add things-to-do to the wedding website!
11. Finalize honeymoon wishlist and general plan.
@lovelylight99 - Date twin! I just realized we have very similar lists, which is supremely encouraging. I thought I was way behind!
I would say that you don't need to have a particular era nailed down, because you don't really want it to be period or costumey, you just want to evoke a feel. I'm feeling between 20-40s for myself, but going for more of an evocative feel, rather than stifling my self with too specific a focus. I've got lots of tacit inpsirations that (I'm hoping) no one will be able to notice too explicitly. I just want it to feel like me, and "me" happens to be a combination of 1930s dance movies, 1920s-40s swing and charleston music, New Orleans jazz, nature, flowers, and natural wood, neutral colors, and antiques of many eras. I think its turning out really well, with no one theme screaming out too loudly, and nothing clashing. Linen, lace, tea stained stationery, peach roses, sage leaves, a gypsy jazz band, led lit willow branches. Hair and fashion will be simple and up to date, but classic.
@NowDontLetsBeSilly: I'd love a copy of your master list. FI would kill me if I did that because it would be a dozen pages long (I'd probably start on the ceiling and end on the floor because I like my lists with extra details and lots of small tasks).
My jobs include booking my dj, getting some florist quotes/deciding if I should do them myself, book my liquor caterer, start looking for a invitation designs.
@mjoyelle: I think that is why I am having trouble nailing down a particular era with the vintage theme. The wedding dress I am wearing kind of looks like it was from the 40's or 50's with the lace detailing and the buttons down the back of the dress. It is a very classic looking wedding dress. I am thinking of wearing pearls with it to keep the classic vintage theme going. I am afraid of it looking too costumey or themed. I just want the feel of being vintage without it blasting it out to our guests that it is a vintage themed wedding. I was thinking soft colored flowers (pinks, blushes, and ivory), table numbers in vintage style picture frames with the vintage numbers, maybe using old books as part of the centerpieces, placing pearls withing the bouquet(s) or maybe around the handles, etc. I am not very creative so I am having a hard time deciding what direction to go with this! LOL wish I had tons of money so I could hire a wedding planner/designer. I think my wedding is going to truly test my limits of creativity! Ha ha...all I can think of is soft lace, pinks and ivories, pearls, old books for my "theme"....
@lovelylight99: I am having the same problem. Im going for a rustic vintage feel. My dress is lace and our reception is in a barn. Im doing all pearl jewelry . Im doing an ombra color theme ranging from ivory , pinks, corals and reds. Im not very creative though so this process is definately testing my abilities. For my tables, on half Im doing home made flower boxes with roses in a mix of my color pallette along with babys breath and wax flowers and theother half will have the blue ball mason jars with babys breath and a lace bow. Argh, it stresses me out thinking about it. Do you guys think these pennants are too cheesy to do?

@asscherlover: That's what ours will probably look like! It is crazy long and specific, like we are having a cookie table so I have "Obtain cookie serving dishes" "paint dishes" "ask relatives about making cookies" "make 5 batches of cookies and freeze" "obtain bags for cookies as favors" and so on and so forth... It's kind of crazy, but we need something to keep us motivated. I'm not ready to share it, since I'm kind of just winging it myself and it is no doubt missing a TON of items still! :)
Sending Save the Dates :)
Ordering some more supplies for the center pieces
Ordering my shoes
Getting the Bridesmaid's dresses!!
I feel like I am very behind! It doesn't help that my FI's grandma, mom and sister always ask me what I have gotten done for the wedding lately and I have to say, "nothing." So far this is the extent of my planning:
- Booked the church and priest
- Booked the reception place
- Bought invitations
- Gone dress shopping and found the dress, but have not purchased it yet.
- My SIL designed our STD's last weekend, so just need to give her the money to order them
- Decided on color scheme
- Asked my BM's
- Decided on fake flowers that we do ourselves
- Decided on cupcakes at each table for centerpieces
And that's about it!
I feel like I have so much more to do!! I am going to my local bridal fair this Sunday and I am pretty excited about that. I am hoping on getting the photographer booked, the DJ and caterer booked right after this. I have a feeling that I am going to be feeing pretty stressed sooner rather than later. I am thankful that even though my FI's family always asks me about how the wedding plans are coming, that they are very supportive and have been so helpful so far!
I know I have a bunch of little to-dos this month, but my big tasks for January are finding a dress, finishing our wedding website, and sending out STDs. Fortunately, my FI and I have already designed the STDs and took the pictures for them, but we just have to get all the addresses together and order them.
I do have some comfort knowing I nailed down the big things already: ceremony location and officiant, reception venue, and photographer.
Yayyy for August 2013 Brides!!
So here's my to do list we have lots of appointments:
Consultation with officiant; (possibly book)
Consultation with photographer and videographer; (possibly book)
Gather the remaining addresses
Send STD (we already designed them, need to take and add a photo)
Start Registry (we have RSVP'd for Macy's Sip and Scan this month)
FI reach out to his contacts and get us a DJ
Show my treadmill a little love
UGH I feel so screwed. I need to find a photographer, officiant, and DJ if possible and start thinking about flowers. I also need to ASAP look at hotels to book a room block (doing that on monday probably) and figure out what I'm doing with transportation
2013 wooooo!!!! The first thing I need to do is make a list of everything we still need to do, sooooooo....
1. Make a list of everything we still need to do
2. Work on finding a custom engraver for FI's wedding band (he is doing this, and doing a great job!)
3. Start buying motorcycle models to serve as table number holders
4. Work on illustrations for decor/paper products (we compromised with "Beatrix Potter-style bunnies")
5. Decide on bridesmaid dresses - doubt we'll finish this month, as my MOH has told me she wants to try and lose weight and doesn't want to get fitted before then which reminds me...
6. Get on track to losing at least 1.5 inches around my waist so that my dress fits comfortably!!!!!
I'm sure there's more, but like I said, I need to make a list ;)
Bridesmaids gifts are ordered (all of it) and my DIY project stuff is ordered too now I am now just impatiently waiting for it all to get here :)
Oh goodness, it's time to ramp it up again!
Need to get:
-veil
-look at and plan invitations
-WEDDING RINGS OMG
-Bridesmaids' dresses are coming in, so I'll have to find time to go deliver them to my BM's and say hi!
-Our tasting is later this month!
-Pricing our decor options.... damn, it's expensive!
-paying off our photographer
-figuring out if we're having pew decorations, and if so, start ordering for them
-ask the church if we need to leave a flower offering at the church
-stationery.
-call the hair ladies to make sure they're free
.... and that's all I can handle this month. FI and I just booked a de-stress before the wedding to NYC for our 3 year dating anniversary in February.
SO EXCITED.
Wow reading this I feel pretty good, all the vendors are booked which is fine since work will be insane until at least June if not later.
- Put in for vacation days (done)
- Fill out photographer survey & start saving sample shots that we'd like
- Decide on cake colors (done)
- Start working on invitations (FI is designing them and making them)
- Work on "registry"
- Continue getting rid of stuff so FI has space to move in
We put the deposit down on the photographer New Year's Eve and I put reminders for everyone's second deposits on my Gmail and office calendar. Clothing-wise we only have FI's suit; he wants to shop for that after the invitations are sent out.
I can zip into my dress but would like to lose a bit just so it's more comfortable.
We got engaged on Christmas day.
Before the engagement, I selected a wedding venue.
RIGHT after Christmas, I:
- bought a gown at a sample sale
- selected the DJ
- started work on the invitations (mom and groom)
- enlisted bridesmaids and set up fitting dates with selected Bari Jay styles
- set up appointments with caterer and wedding coordinator
- interviewing photographers
- started working on the registries
The only things I'm stressing over are:
- reception decor
- officiant stuff. I want a friend of mine from college to officiate. He's a minister but FI and I are planning to join the church that we've been visiting with so we can start counseling. I'm anxious to get started on that. The weekends don't leave enough time to get things done! :(
I got our RSVP and reception cards today, and bought a Groupon to get our invites. eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
I also drank an entire bottle of wine.
@vorpalette: LOL good work! Especially on the wine!
I reserved our hotel room block and sent out our Save the Dates yesterday! I'm still working on the invitation design and making table numbers. I think we are in pretty good shape and not really behind on anything!
So, my fiance and I have been in overdrive! He proposed in May 2012 and although I've had a lot of time to get things done, I didn't start right away. I am currently in college, it's my last semester ..so, I had to figure out post-graduation plans before I could focus on getting married. So... here were are, January 2013!
My To-Do list:
1. Finish Guestlist spreadsheet by adding addresses
2. Find an officiant (My FI would like for his grandfather to perform the ceremony).
3. Find a Florist
4. Make veil
5. Create and Send Save The Dates
6. Ceremony drafts
7. EXERCISE! EXERCISE! EXERCISE! + EAT RIGHT!
8. Select Tux style for groom and groomsmen (check)
My list this month isn't too over-whelming
We have already met with the priest and obtained ok to marry (Interfaith)
Booked reception hall, selected meals..all linens, backdrops and lighting incl.
Booked photographer
Did first engagement shot (FI and I are in different cities and both wanted to incorporate this)

Purcahse bridesmaid gifts
Completed my half of the guest list including all addresses (asked at xmas during xmas card season) hehe
Booked DJ/MC

Purcahsed rehersal dress
Selected invitation - need to figure where to get them printed
To Do:
Florist apt on Saturday
Finalize grooms guestlist and obtain addresses
Book marriage classes - I have been looking into this for awhile
Order shoes from Etsy (so I can go try on my dress!!!)
Discuss music selections...
Reserve Hotel blocks for out of town guests
HOUSE SHOPPING!!
I am feeling good about January so far. We selected our mens attire, I had another fitting and the dress fits perfectly, and we found a MOB dress! I also will be picking up my wedding band (had it sized) and the engraved BP gifts next weekend. And FI finally decided on a gift for his dad at the rehearsal dinner. I don't know if I will get started on DIY projects but I am feeling good about everything else!
This is my mom's dress but in Navy blue! It was the 2nd dress we tried on :)

Man, this month has been more productive than any other so far! We found an awesome DJ and just have to send in the contract and deposit, we might have a caterer just have to make that decision final with contract and deposit, did our engagement photos, and now FI has been making fantastic headway on the honeymoon search. My elusive dress came in and I get to try it on on Wednesday, I am waiting for the CD of our engagement photos so I can make the STDs, and I contacted a hotel about a block of rooms. It feels so nice to finally get some of these things OFF THE LIST!!!
We had a crazy warm spell (55degrees for a few days, then it promptly fell down to 30 over the weekend!) so during that time we did some spray painting!! Not finished yet, but wanted to share because I'm loving them so far!!! :D These are pieces of motorcycle models that will act as table number holders, as well as some animals that will be scattered around as additional table decor.
This is the only in progress picture I got though, I didn't get the animals pre-paint >_<**
