    Hi fellow Bees,

My fiance and I are on a pretty tight budget, but would like to honeymoon somewhere "beach-like" in the states.  We were thinking Oregon or Northern California, but August seems to be a pretty popular time for those places.

Any thoughts or ideas??  We are having New Mexico wedding so we are centrally located (hopefully this should make it easy to fly somewhere awesome!).

    Thanks!

The boy and I went to the Monterey peninsula for vacation one year (Monterey, Carmel, etc) with a stop in San Fran. It was just an amazing vacation. I say go for it!

There's always Florida, but it is HOT AS BALLS down there in August. If you can handle that, it's totally affordable.

You can get some great deals in Florida this year but yes, it will be very hot.

I think you could probably find some pretty good deals up there around that time.  School typically starts around mid to end of Aug, so ezpecially during the week you might find something at a good price.

Thanks guys!  Yes, I think we were hoping to stay AWAY from Florida that time of year since it will be busy and hot, but the Cali ideas sound great!

Just remember that, while absolutely beautiful, the beaches in NorCal and Oregon are rocky beaches and not sandy beaches.

I think we would just like someplace where we can enjoy a beach view if needed...we are really looking to a place to hull up and spend with each other, so the really highly-populated beaches don't sound horribly appealing! :-)  are they Northern cali/Oregon beaches beautiful enough to sit around on and spend time together??

    How about Cannon Beach, OR?

I've always wanted to go there!  My parents lived there when I was a baby.

Oh the beaches are gorgeous, and it isn't 100% rocks, but I wasn't sure if you were going for the white sandy beaches thing, which it isn't. But as you can see from the pic posted above, if you're looking for a place to chill and watch a great sunset, it definitely would work.

Cannon Beach is beautiful!  It is right where I used to go every summer growing up: Manzanita beach.

I agree with some other posters that the beaches are definitely different, but actually some beaches are more sandy than rocky.  For example, the beach at Manzanita is a sandy beach.  I do want to mention though that even in August the weather at beaches in Oregon can be a toss up.  If you are looking for hot weather, California might be a better option.  If you are not looking for super hot weather Oregon or Washington beaches are awesome.

Well, since I am from California, and having lived in both southern and northern parts of the state...I would say that Southern California like Santa Barbara or San Diego would be a good spot for you. It all depends on what you want to do. Long Beach is also nice.

Thanks for the input Carebear!  We are really planning on being quite boring on our honeymoon and staying in alot, but we would like a beach that is close and perhaps a town that we could easily get to and walk around in.  For the most part we aren't planning big tourist things, but we would like to have a couple of options.

We're staying local for our honeymoon too (thinking a B&B in upstate NY or Montreal)

I don't know too much about the beaches on the West Coast, but we had done a road trip along Pacific Coast Highway from SF to Big Sur and it was amazing!

    Maybe Bermuda?

The San diego area is lovely, with fun things to do in the area. It almost always has perfect weather conditions as well. Or you could go for something charming and off the beaten path like Astoria, Oregon.

Also, have you considered the Big Sur area> Quite stunning if you want something a little more dramatic.

Have a wonderful time where ever you land!

Big Sur and other beaches in northern California are great in August. It gets pretty darn hot around that time of year, and from Santa Barbara south it's going to be nice on the beach, but hot anywhere else. If you want to get away to someplace quiet, what about Catalina Island? It's close to LA, easy to get to and really beautiful. Plus, the ocean keeps it cool!

San Diego? If you're willing to stay a bit inland you can find more affordable hotels

Check out Pajaro Dunes.  The beach is super secluded, and never crowded.  Totally mellow, not touristy spot.
