There's no waiting period for the marriage license, so you should be fine with that. You can even download the paperwork online and fill it out ahead of time! What style of venue are you wanting? And what garden were you currently looking at?
hubby and i got married in august of 2011. it was super hot but we had our ceremony and reception indoors. we did our photo tour of the strip and we were pretty hot by the end of it. and we're from florida! so we're used to the heat.
i would say you might be pushing it flying in on Friday. our wedding was on monday and i flew in thursday night, had my hair and makeup trial on friday morning, met with our wedding coordinator on friday afternoon, had a dinner with everyone who flew in early friday night. saturday went to get my dress from the steamers and met with the wedding coordinator for the reception and dropped off all the decorations. saturday night was bachelor/bachelorette night. sunday was the rehearsal dinner and recovery day. if youre not planning on having a ton of stuff to do out in vegas it might be ok. i mean the marriage license part only took, literally, 5 minutes. we paid for parking for 45 minutes cuz we thought it would take a long time but it went so fast.
sorry for the novel!
@MadameTussaud: Thanks!! Grand Garden @ Lakeside
@love108: Yeah, I know but August is the only month FI's brother has time off from work from his job overseas in Spain ;/
@Future Mrs Morison: Great info, thanks!! Where did you guys have your wedding and were you satisfied with everything: cost, location, service...
OMG... last time I was in Vegas it was June, and it was hot then. Like.. moisture draining out of my eyeballs, pool becoming lukewarm by noon hot. I can't imagine outdoors then. Of course, I'm also used to heat plus humidity. I'd have plenty of cold drinks ready if you go outdoors.
Caesar's Palace has very nice outdoor locations as well as an indoor chapel for a backup option. What's your budget for the ceremony? I just got back from a scouting trip for venues (but we're doing indoors in December).
@MadameTussaud: Budget is $2K for the ceremony. Out of curiosity, what places were impressed with during your trip?
We ended up choosing Sam's Town (in their Mystic Falls park area) for our venue. It's super inexpensive, it's like being in an outdoor park but it's actually inside and temp controlled to 72 degrees year round. Lots of trees and a waterfall. You might really like it!! PM me your email address and I'll send you some pics.
Other than that, our 2nd choice was the Stratosphere. We also liked the Luxor, Excalibur, and Chapel of the Flowers. All were well under 2K! Most places were a lot nicer in person than in the pics online.
when we decided to get married in vegas, we moved our wedding from august to may. i was in vegas in may twice last year and it was unusually cold. i stuck a cardigan in my purse when we went to marquee. one of my bridesmaids gets really bothered by heat so an outdoor wedding would be out of the question if i kept it in august.
vegas is hot during august. i would think about who will be attending the ceremony and how well they handle heat and go from there. also what are you envisioning yourself wearing? will you have the groomsmen in tuxes? i really wanted the full on wedding -- no lightweight short destination style wedding dresses or bridal party in sundresses and shorts.
i found that if you move more northwest of the strip, it is generally a little cooler. i think most places charge around $2000 for a ceremony. i visited one venue when i was out in vegas for a bachelorette party and then flew out two weeks later and visited 10 venues in 3 days. we picked the last venue we visited. many looked fine but many were deceiving in pictures.
we really liked angel park golf course, the westin, the emerald, and a few other places but the bf really fell in love with the most expensive venue. i think we are paying $2,500 for the ceremony. i don't think ceremony only was an option. we fly out again in two weeks to do our tasting, pick out linens, and tie up some last minute loose ends.
Hi,
August is one of the hottest months in Vegas, so I highly recommend against an outdoor wedding, especially at 3 p.m. It will likely be well into the 100s by then and if you have grandparents or anyone older coming, it will be especially hot for them. I would recommend waiting until the sun has gone down if you're set on outdoors, it's still in the 90s but it's more of a cozy warm than an unbearable hot. It's also Monsoon season then which is lots of winds and rain, so that's something to keep in mind as well. Does your venue have a backup location in case weather is bad for your outdoor ceremony?
I think you should have a variety of venues to choose from based on your price for the ceremony alone. I'm with Chapel of the Flowers and you could get some really amazing packages with that price, customizing flowers, etc. and we do have both indoor and outdoor locations.
For your marriage license, definitely pre-apply online as that saves even more time and then all you and your FI need to do is go to the courthouse together once you arrive to town to pick it up. I would do it on Friday when you arrive, that way it's one less thing to worry about on your actual wedding day.
Congratulations and best of luck!
Hi. I live in LV, and I can echo PPs' comments that it will be extremely HOT in August at 3pm. That is actually the hottest time of the day (late afternoon) as the cement/concrete has been baking in the heat all day and you still have direct sunshine. I would absolutely, if at all possible, NOT have your wedding outside at that time of day. It is brutal and I've lived here for 15 years so I'm used to the heat.
That said, unfortunately, I don't have any recommendations as to venues. But I am certain you can find somewhere beautiful (and comfortable!) in your budget. Good luck!
we got married at the chapel at planet hollywood with the "somewhere in time" package which included 2 nights there. we had our reception at maggianos (very highly recommended by all the knot girls on the las vegas boards)
everything was awesome. the chapel at planet hollywood was gorgeous and maggianos was absolutely fabulous. i can't recommend them both enough. if you wanna see my reviews and photos heres my planning blog...http://dustinandkasara.weebly.com/
I got married sept 9th in Vegas and it was Hot!!! Thankfully the ceremony's in Vegas are not long at all. Mine was roughly 8 minutes so the groomsman were quick to get the suit jackets off. We got married at the flamingo and they did a great job. We chose the outdoor gazebo that's secluded. After that we had our reception at the Planet Hollywood restaurant inside of Ceasars palace. The food was awesone, menu we chose was fantastically priced and included the wedding cake. I had so many people compliment on how great the restaurant did with our reception. I chose our venues from others who did the same thing and I couldn't have been more happy. I wouldn't recommend flying in the day before though. We got in two days before just in case anything went wrong. We met with the coordinator and hadtome time to relax and get settled in. Good luck with everything!

Vegas brides:
What are your recommendations for the time of the ceremony for an outdoor August wedding? There is a garden venue I love, beautiful, fits my budget, but the wedding will be around 3PM on August 11th=HOT!! If 3PM is too early b/c of the temps, what other venues would you recommend that would not cost an arm and a leg. I am trying to avoid an indoor ceremony as decorations cost extra but may be willing to do so for the right venue.
Also, we are having the wedding on a Saturday, are we pushing it to fly in Friday, the day before the wedding, and apply for the marriage license then (we live in TN)?
Thanks!!
