@theEguarantee:  A lot of people don’t consider engagement parties all that important. Maybe they don’t realize it’s a big deal to you. Remember it’s the wedding that counts.

I wouldn’t worry about a few people not coming to the engagement party even though they are your family. Like PP said, it’s really whether or not they come to the wedding that counts. Even though it may be them being passive aggressive about the whole kids thing I would just be the bigger person and ignore the behavior. Honestly, it sounds like they have at least pre-teen children, if not teenagers. I’m pretty sure as a teenager I wouldn’t want to hang out at some engagement party where my parents and everyone else will be drinking.

It’s totally disappointing but as the other bees have said, a lot of people don’t think engagement parties are that important.
I had 5 relatives show up to mine when i invited 20 and these are people that I am in constant contact with but they didn’t get that it was important to me.

In your situation I think it’s silly that they wouldn’t come because it’s adult only but try not to dwell on just enjoy your party. It sounds like an awesome theme!

@theEguarantee:  I would allow kids to come if their parents think it’s appropriate. As a child, I went to many parties that ended later on in the evening and where alcohol was served. If you can, I’d leave it up to the parents. If you want your aunts and uncles there, it may be worth a compromise.

What a bunch of Killjoys! I bet you’ll have WAY more fun without them there!

@theEguarantee:  Sorry they’re doing this:/ I totally get why you would be disappointed. Just try to focus on enjoying yourself and the evening as much as possible!
