Don’t worry yourself too much about it. Just remember to wear some shapewear (if you’ve got) and keep an open mind. Most of the samples will be 10s but I’ve seen some salons carry up to a size 20. In any case, at your size, it would probably still be easy to squeeze you into a slightly smaller dress. Just be mindful that bridal sizes run stupidly small for some reason so (depending on your shape) expect to go up 2-3 sizes (ie; street size – 12, bridal size – 16). Try not to feel self conscious if they have to clip you up or anything – especially since 9/10ths of us in the salon have to do that anyway, lol.

You must keep your weight in advance dear, that dress you wear will be very suitable.

Don’t worry… you will be fine!

I’m in NZ and am a 16-18 generally, I’ve tried on dresses from a size 6 to size 20. It’s amazing how well you can get an idea of whether a dress will work even if the size is wrong.

Congratulaions on the weight loss, enjoy the search 🙂

You should be fine – worst case scenario you can just not do up the back completely on smaller samples. In my experience many bridal salons prefer slightly larger samples anyway because they can just use clamps on the back to precisely fit it to the person.

Don’t be scared, wedding dress shopping is great fun and you are going to have a ball!

Serket84:  I’m so glad you asked this. I’m also starting my dress shopping in 2 weeks and am a 10-12 but big in the bust. Hopefully we will both be fine and will have fun

Serket84:  Are you planning to shop in the CBD or the outer suburbs?

I’m pretty sure that the dresses I tried on were mostly size 12s and 14s. There were a few size 10s though. I also shopped in Sydney. Which shops are you looking at?

i bought my dress from Brides of Sydney who were wonderful.  To be fair, I’m a size 10, but she did have to clip me into quite a few dresses as the samples were bigger (often a US 10 which is more like an Aus 14).  Another really lovely boutique is Brides Closet up in Collaroy on the northern beaches – she definitely had samples in a 14 for most of the dresses.  Also Brides of Sydney have a sale on at the moment – I picked up my dress this afternoon (so exciting!) and it looks like they have a lot of gorgeous stuff on sale.

Serket84:  if you’re ok with a sample dress, go to the Henry roth outlet! I got mine there after an online disaster. They are nice, they have dresses in lots of sizes ( I’m size 12). 🙂

Serket84:  Ok, I’ve been to some of those. There’s a few in Miranda as well if it’s not too out of your way. I actually just went to one in the CBD really recently, it’s called Fashions by Farina in the Dymocks building. TBH, I think I might’ve found my dress (Essense of Australia D1209) in there but now I need to make yet another appt w/ the one store I liked in Miranda (Dressense) because they had some beautiful Maggie Sottero’s in there and now I’m pretty torn.
