    Hey Ausitn(Texas) bees,

My FH and I are most likely moving to Austin, TX after our wedding (so around the beginning of June) but are going to start looking at places/jobs/etc before then.

I am just curious...what do you all do for a living? And do you like it ;) Also, what about Austin, love it?!

thanks for answering my completely random questions

I live in Austin - love love love it.  I moved here for law school 3 1/2 years ago, met my fiance, and decided to stay.  I'm currently unemployed, and it can be hard sometimes looking for jobs here because UT is so huge and so many students want to stay in the city after graduation.  It's a great city, though, that's pretty easy to get around, has warm weather most of the year, has great (and often very affordable) restaurants, and a vibrant downtown scene.  What's not to love?  Well, maybe the couple months of 100 degree weather...=)

I LOVE AUSTIN! Austin is awesome. There is something for everyone and there is always something new to try (sigh) oh Austin how I adore thee! HA! The food is yum, the outdoors are great (and this coming from a not so outdoorsy gal), the wineries in Hill Country, the town lake experience the traffic-er not so grand but could be worse. I call myself tour guide barbie when my friends come to visit. You guys are gonna love it- I'm basing this on not knowing you at all but everyone loves Austin. I am a paralegal- not exactly the most exciting profession in the world but it pays the bills and has its challenges which I like-who knows perhaps I'll be the next Erin Brokovich- in slightly less revealing clothing. HA! Enjoy enjoy enjoy!!!

I just moved to Austin this past June. My husband was born and raised here and was happy when his job transferred him back here from my home town, Las Vegas.

I like it here so far. I am a high school math teacher and am teaching at a small private school on the north side of town.

I started applying in February of last year and was hired in May.. so don't give up.. things just move a little slower down here..

There are lots of retail places that seem to be hiring right now if you just need something until you find your career.

Cost of living is a lot cheaper here than it was in Vegas.. but that also means my pay check is less - but it works out.

The food here is great... lots of yummy, local Tex-Mex cuisine.

Let me know if you have any questions :)

I love Austin!  My husband is an engineer and I'm an attorney.  The job market is pretty competitive here right now, but it really depends on what kind of job you're looking for.  It's a fun place that's growing all the time.

awesome awesome awesome :) thanks so much for the imput ladies!!!

    keep it coming!

Any ideas for places to look at to rent? (apts) that have short(er) leases? We want to buy a home but may have to rent for the first few months (less than a year) to get settled because it will be easier to find a home if we live there.

    let me know!

    thanks!

I adore Austin!  We've lived here for 8 years, and wouldn't live anywhere else in Texas.

I'm a Literacy Specialist with Austin ISD, and my hubs is a local photographer.

Things that are great about Austin:

    1. culture: music, art, food, etc.

    2. friendly people

    3. low crime rate

    4. great schools

    5. local businesses (restaurants, bookstores, etc.) that are completely one-of-a-kind

    6.  Some people will say traffic sucks, but try to get a place central and you may not even have to get on the highways much.

    7. everywhere has wifi (this might sound dorky, but it's true-- Austin puts NYC to shame in this category)

    8. The Alamo Drafthouse!!!

    9. the parks are AMAZING and tons of them are right in the middle of town

    10. There are so many coffeeshops for those coffeelovers.

    11. There are fabulous restaurants and winebars and truly any kind of shop you can imagine. (I guess this is synonymous with #5)

    12. Even though it's a recession, the housing market hasn't plummeted the way it has elsewhere.

    13. Central Market

I know there are lots more, but I'm just going off the top of my head. Hahahahaha! Can you tell I LOVE Austin?

Things that are NOT great about Austin:

    1.  The allergens are pretty hideous, because of all our trees and such.

    2.  In the summer, the heat is killer.  You can circumvent this one by holing up in a pool or Barton Springs, and cranking the AC.

    3. It can take awhile to find the perfect job, because it's fairly competetive.

    4. If you choose to live outside the city, you'll definitely deal with commuter traffic, but that's everywhere, right?

That's it.  That's all I can think of on the bad side...

    Welcome to Austin!
