I don't have one YET, but have decided to get one of the Kashmir blues for my future ering as a stand-in and then switch it for an Amora gem. I've had plenty of time to research this, and after looking at reviews and threads, it looks like they're amazing stones you can't go wrong with.
Just out of curiosity, which color are you considering?
@abirdword: That's fantastic to hear
I've read great things about them as well and have been hoping that it's not a case of "it's too good to be true". I'm considering Kashmir Blue and Dark Ceylon Blue Sapphires in asscher or cushion cuts as well as the Emeralds in a cushion cut. I heard that BTD allows for custom cut options on occasion which would be great to take advantage of. Which cuts of the Kashmir Blue do you favour?
Oooo - those sound pretty! Asschers are so sophisticated, and cushions have the lovely mix of sparkle + square shape. I think I want the round diamond cut. A round diamond cut emerald was a contender, too, for a while. One thing about the dark ceylon blues: they were discontinued, I believe, so whatever they have in stock on their website may be all you can get.
btw, what part of NZ are you from (have I asked you this before)? I spent this fall living in the Dunedin area
I really want the Asscher blue sapphire - so gorgeous! I have it pinned on Pinterest and I'm in love with it. I hope someone who has one will pop in and share!
I ordered the Avarra concave cut pink sapphire and it was frikkin awesome. I sent it back because i didn't really have a project for it but I plan to own one someday when i think of what to do with it. It was a gorgeous, gorgeous stone. Absolutely beautiful faceting.
I haven't but I have one of their rubies on my wishlist... since I will probably never be able to afford, or find, a top-color natural ruby.
@abirdword: Ooh the round diamond cuts are gorgeous as well
In fact, the entire selection is stunning - the colour of the stones are just so vibrant. Frankly, they're better than the natural sapphires and emeralds being sold in some of the jewellery stores we have visited. Hmm Kashmir Blue it is then lol - that actually might be a good thing since it would help me narrow down my selection.
Lol I'm not sure if you have but I'm from Auckland. How did you find your time down in the South Island? I've heard that it is beautiful down there. Were you the one who came to NZ for something work or school related? Sorry, terrible memory here.
@MissPine: They are pretty aren't they??
@moonadea: Thank you so much for sharing your experience - I really wanted to hear from people who have seen the stones in person and I'm glad that you were happy with the quality.
@Over the Moon: Lol same here - there's no way in the forseeable future that my SO or I can afford a top natural sapphire or emerald - but strangely, I actually prefer the colour of the Avarra stones to some of the natural stones I've seen.
@Miss Circe: Aw, cool! Loved the South Island. Yup, that was me.
@moonadea: glad to hear your experience w/it as well. btw, of my favorite rings on the bee, yours is one of the top 5. Your ring helped me decide I wanted a plain shank halo.
Does anyone else own an Avarra gemstone or has seen one in person? Pics are most welcome!
SO ordered one and showed it to me today! Kashmir blue 6.5mm diamond cut. I don't have a picture, but it's BEAUTIFUL! Far prettier than any sapphire I've ever seen in real life. It doesn't black out at all! It goes from royal blue to sort of a blue jay blue, depending on the lighting. I'm so excited about it!
@MissPine: I will! Originally I thought the sapphire would be a temp stone until Amora gem comes out, but now that I've seen it, I might stick with the sapphire. It's loose right now, but I'm so excited to see it in a ring! Eeeeek!
:)
@abirdword: Omg that sounds breathtaking!! What do you mean though when you say "diamond cut"? But your description of the colour is actually making me giddy lol. I can't wait to see pictures of it and I'm really glad you're happy with the actual stone.
@Miss Circe: it's the round diamond cut. Round, faceted like a round brilliant. I like it. :)
alrighty, Miss Circe, just got my ring, and wanted to show you!
6.5mm Kashmir round diamond cut. I'm a size 6.

I've got a Kashmir colored Avarra Sapphire for a RHR. I don't remember the exact measurements since it was custom cut, but I believe the carat weight is close to 2.4.

@abirdword: It is as beautiful and as stunning as I expected it to be. You are a very lucky womana and congratulations to you and your fiance for your recent engagement
The colour is absolutely drool-worthy.
@MrsBlueSeptember: and @kalixti: Those rings are magnificent! The colours of the stones are so vibrant that I am actually finding it hard to take my eyes of them!
Thank you so much ladies for sharing so far - please keep them coming! I have to say this thread has definitely convinced me that going with an Avarra for my engagement ring sounds like it will be the best idea for me. Though the pics of the new Amora gem are proving hard to resist

Would you like to see an Avarra ruby too? Rubies are red sapphires, right?
@MrsBlueSeptember: Yes, rubies are also corundum, like sapphires! They are red due to presence of chromium. It is pretty fascinating how the trace of certain minerals can result in such different colours. For example, the presence of titanium in certain amounts creates colourless/white sapphires, iron creates yellow or green, and...iron and titanium makes blue!
What we call now "pink sapphires" are actually technically rubies, too, but in the US they do not meet the minimum colour saturation to be identified as such. Many trade organizations still identify them as rubies, though!
(not all from memory, I had to check Wikipedia for the elements that make the colours!).
This is my 8mm Avarra diamond cut Kashmir. Though I am trying to sell my rings, I just love this stone and it will be sad to see it go. The blue is amazing, and even in low light conditions where colourless stones can look a little dull due to lack of light, this stone still looks amazing with the blue colouring. I actually think it looks best in overcast conditions, as the facets and deep blue really "pop" when the sparkle/reflection is not in the way!
@Over the Moon: thank you!
@MrsBlueSeptember: Love the concave cut, and the rose gold! Beautiful!
@MrsBlueSeptember: Gorgeous ring! Man, that red's TDF. Love emerald cut solitaires.
@kalixti: Your pear halo's beautiful! Very unique ring. Pears are so lovely, and you don't see them too often.
@Miss Circe: Thank you!
@abirdword: Thanks! I love pears, it's one of my favorite cuts. :)
@RayKay: Your ring was one of the reasons I decided Avarra sapphire was the way to go!
@MrsBlueSeptember: Oh that ruby is gorgeous!! I'm going to have to show my friend your ring. Her and her SO are talking about getting engaged as well and her favourite colour is red and I know that she is thinking of getting a ruby ring.
@RayKay: Everytime I see photos of your ring, I literally stare at it for a good minute - it is so beautiful. And I have to agree with @abirdword:, your ring is what made me start seriously considering Avarra sapphires.

Have any Bees purchased an Avarra lab-created gemstone (loose stone or set in a ring) from BTD? Were you happy with your purchase and the quality? Did the stone look the the photo on the website? Please post a picture if you can
I've been reading some of the threads on the BTD forum but I was curious if any Bees own one.
