I live in DFW in Texas. The average size that I’ve noticed around me ranges from .8-1.5 carats. Then again…that’s just the people around me and others that I’ve noticed while out and about. I know 1 with a .5 center and another with a 2.0 center. Mine is a 1.2 center on a 7.5 size finger (may have to resize to a 7), and I love her!

I’m in DC- I’d say the norm is probably about 1-1.25 cts, but given that it is a city- there’s a huge range of economic statuses. So you have some who can’t afford a stone or band at all, and others with 8ct stones

ETA: I lived in NJ for the first 15 years of my life, and I’d say the average there was .4-.8 cts.

Well, average where I got engaged (NYC) is probably 2. Average where I live now is probably 1.

@Clairetoris:  I think DC, NYC, and Los Angeles CA probably have the largest sizes out of all cities. In my social circle from DC, and even in my apt building, I have never met someone with less than 1ct

@Clairetoris:  My ring originally came with a round head, but when my mom gave us her diamond, we got the head switched out. I love it more than the original!

This is how it looked before.

I’m from the Midwest, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a diamond over 1 carat IRL there. Where we live now I have no idea what the average is. There’s probably a wide range all over the size spectrum since we live in a metro area now.

In Orange County Ca, where Im from, younger brides (20’s) usually have 1carat center stones and everyone else has 1.5-2carat center stones.
And as for the well off crowd.. they usually had 3-5 carat stones, although Ive seen much larger!!! I used to see all these different types of people while working in a salon.
But now here in WA.. I see .50 is average. Which is a bummer becaue I loooooved looking at jewelry!!

@Clairetoris:  Move to Boston. The avg ring here is at LEAST 2cts. My 1ct is VERY modest!

I’d say .5-.75 is average around here.  I’m in a Midwestern state.  It’s not totally uncommon to see 1 carat diamonds though.

Is there a way to look this up haha?  I have no idea what it is in my college town, probably pretty small! Tongue Out

Is this a thing you get familiar with after you get a diamond or do you find out via conversations with others?
