@jamapa40: For my wedding at Thalassa I did cupcakes and it was cheaper and very nice. I can recommend a baker and a talented, fairly priced photog too if your event is in Manhattan.

I’m using a NYC Bakery and their cakes start at around $600 but on average run closer to $900, PM if you want more info.

It depends on what you want to do. We’re going for a small cake to cut- then have sheet cake in the back with the filling. That way we don’t blow all of our money on one big fancy cake that has to be cut up (and frankly, it avoids the whole fondant thing, which I think never tastes good). Most places prices cakes by the slice- you can find cakes cheap enough that run $5-$6 a slice, or if you go super fancy they can run to $15 a slice- which is crazy expensive for 75 people! Check out NYMag weddings- they have a nice range of prices so you can see what the less over-the-top options are.

Ours cost about $900 for 125 people.  We’re using Karyn Kwok of Kakes in Brooklyn.  She’s AWESOME and makes beautiful creations.  Our cake is simple with handmade sugar flowers.  Best of luck to you!
