I guess it depends where you live, that is less than I am worried I will have to pay. You’re paying for their skills and time (including travel time) not just the raw materials.

I paid close to that amount and I went to the salon, they did not travel to me. My makeup was $75 and hair was $100, and took a lot of time and work so it was worth it. Add on tip and I was right around if not just over $200.

I’m paying $260 for hair and make-up. That sounds about right there with all the other quotes I was given.

cgamble:  I think there are several factors to consider here: where you live (i.e. prices in NYC will be more than those in Iowa), experience/reputation of the stylist or MUA, and the distance they will need to travel.  That being said, I don’t think $200 is outlandish for a reputable, experienced stylist and MUA to travel to your location.

That is a really good price for hair and make up, at least for where I am (Southern California). My stylist, who I’ve been going to for years, does hair and make up for professional photo shoots and was going to charge me $300 for hair and make up, and an additional $150 for travel. She ended up not working out, and I found someone much cheaper, but other MUA/hair stylists that I reached out to were around that price as well.

Does $200 also include your trial?

I’m paying 60 for hair and 40 for makeup. I live in a rural area. This price however, does not include a trial rather a meeting with my stylist.

I was going to do my own makeup, but recently changed my mind. For $350, my MUA is traveling from the Detroit area to Ann Arbor to do my hair & makeup, plus a separte trip for a trial of each. I wanted to puke the first time I saw her price, but after crunching some numbers and doing some comparisons, it’s actually a great deal. She doesn’t charge a travel fee (for wedding day or trial), and is doing airbrush makeup, false lashes, and giving me a touch-up kit. I checked her portfolio and she does makeup for print and commercial modeling, as well, so she is highly skilled. I am now more than comfortable with the price. Like other bees have said, it really depends on the area, on what all it includes, the skill level of the artist, and if there are any additional fees. Many factors to consider. Good luck!

It depends where you live. In my area you can’t even just get makeup for $200 if they’re coming to you. My hair alone was more than $200 and makeup artists charge hundreds.

cgamble:  ooh girl. How’s their portfolio? Have they done similar looks to what you want? I guess you could really go either way. If it’s something simple, then they could probably pull it off, or so could you! But, it’s really nice not having to worry about doing ANYthing the day of. So it might be worth it!

$200 isn’t bad for someone who is traveling out to you.  We hired a hair/makeup artist to travel to our house.  My hair and makeup will be $140 (not including trial) and it’s $120 for each of the bridesmaids.  The downside is that she works alone and won’t have an assistant, so we have to start at like 7:30am.  The next cheapest hair/makeup artist quoted me $220 for my hair/makeup on the day of, but she also worked with an assistant and could get people done more quickly.  The rest of the quotes I received were in the $400-$500 range for just my hair and makeup.

cgamble:  I would have loved to pay $200 for hair and make-up. I paid $400 for my hair and makeup. I live in NY, so everything here is expensive.
