I really noticed the difference when I called a local cake shop for the prices of cakes.  When I got the quotes on the phone, it was half of what she quoted me in person.  We wanted 5 small uncomplicated cakes as soon as I said the word wedding the price doubled.  OMG, Really?  So now when I talk to potential vendors I get the quotes for a party and have them email them to me, so when I met with them in person I bring in the quote and have no problems with telling them it is for a wedding.  They are caught red handed if they try to give me a much larger price.  I did this with our caterer and it worked perfectly.  They tried to give me a quote 30% higher, but I had their email and I got the lower price.
