Sorry you’re going through this. You said you were vaccinated for Hep B,… were you also vaccinated for hep C?

ugh I’m so sorry you have to go through this – how frightening! And your SO isn’t being much help!  He’s probably just worried for you though and isn’t trying to be an idiot.

No sense worrying until you find out what’s going on – easier said then done, I know.

Is there any chance you could have contracted it from a medical facility? This has recently happened in the U.S.  Check it out here:

@BeeingAnonymous:  Oh, I was thinking of twinrix, but that’s hep A. n/m.

Honestly, I don’t think there’s any way to full on stop yourself from worrying. Just reassure yourself that it’s likely nothing, but if it is you will deal with it when you know what’s going on. The tests are going to help you determine a course of treatment if necessary. If you can, do something distracting and try not to ruminate on it. I think it’s normal to worry though, so don’t feel bad that you’re worried.

Your SO sounds like he’s having a “guy” reaction, or he really doesn’t know how to react. He’s likely just worried and doesn’t know how to process. It’s hurtful, but I don’t think he’s being hurtful on purpose.

@BeeingAnonymous:  also, just curious, what do you guys do for work that you’re exposed to dirty water and frequent needle stick injuries?

@BeeingAnonymous:  Oh, sorry. I was just wondering. Sounds like you’re doing some very selfless work. Good for you!

I hope whatever orginization you’re working with is aware of the frequency of exposures and is taking steps to minimize them.

I think you just have to wait it out and try not to worry too much before you know what’s going on. It’s hard.. I know. Best of luck to you both!

@BeeingAnonymous:  First off, I’m sorry you’re going through this.

Second, if it is Hep C, it can be successfully treated. My mom somehow contracted Hep C and it was just discovered this past year. She was put on Interferon for about 6 months and now she’s perfectly fine. She felt tired and irritable while on the treatment (and you can’t drink any alcohol) but as soon as she was done, like literally a week later, she felt like her normal energetic self. She hasn’t had any problems 🙂

Hep C can be contracted in many different ways other than sex. She suspects she contracted it through her work many years ago (she used to work in the OR as a nurse). She has a friend who contracted Hep C through a pedicure at a salon. So don’t feel like you did anything wrong.

OP, I’m sorry I have no good advice for you, but hopefully your waiting time passes more quickly than you anticipate and that you get a clean bill of health!

@BeeingAnonymous:  Well keep up posted on the results. And about the email thing, could you sit down with your boss and explain everything and then they can send out a general email stating that an employee contracted Hep C (if that’s what it is) while working abroad and it is advised that everyone be tested? That way no one knows who it was and that way no one can be “looked down on”.

Anyways, I’m crossing my fingers for you 🙂
