DH and I just bought a foreclosure that was in really great condition, except the carpets. They had huge dark spots on them (I assume from dirty shoes), and I honestly thought we would have to replace them.
I bought some $30 carpet cleaner to go with our steam cleaner, and it didn’t do anything. So after a google search, I found that Tide (**must be Tide**) may work, and I gave it a shot, and it’s incredible! I have to go over a couple spots, and hand scrub the really stubborn spots, but the carpet looks waaaay better.
Just thought I would share! I’m sure this would work on fresh stains as well.

How do you use it? I spilled coffe on the stairs the other morning, and my regular spot cleaner didn’t work all the way. Oops!

I wonder if the Tide Free will work. I have to use the free versions or I itch like crazy.

If you’re hand scrubbing just mix it with water and dab on with a cloth and scrub.
But I’ve used it in the steam cleaner the same way you would use actual carpet cleaner.
I used Tide Acti-Lift, but in the thing I read, they didn’t specify a kind.

You can also use Barbisol (yes, the shaving cream) to spot clean.
I LOVE the website http://www.howtocleananything.com – it has amazing tips!
