If you still have pictures of the ill-fitting dress and they have a date/time stamp on them I would go discuss it with davids for maybe a discount or a refund on alterations since they didn't do the job properly.
But at least its taken care of now, I remember your dress from previous posts, its very beautiful :)
@mrscheetos: thanks :) And I would, but there's no time for me to go there. :/ it's such a long drive and I don't have the tags on the dress anymore, or the receipt from the alterations since I personally didn't pay for them. ugh. lol But oh well, it is being taken care of and that's all that matters, it just stinks that we paid so much for basically nothing. =/ I tried explaining to the woman what I wanted done, prior to the alterations, but I guess she didn't understand me. I had a hard time understanding her as well because of her accent, so I don't know if it was miscommunication or what but I was sure to make clear of what I wanted. This was my biggest fear going in there.
@heyitssamyrae: regarding the chest being too big, i had this problem with my dress too - i think the bodice on my dress was really stiff and there was it was not naturally able to lay flat against my chest, even after i had double cups sewn in....so my seamstress did what she called a "hidden stitch". i don't know how to explain it, but it worked! maybe you can bring it up with your new seamstress.
I had issues with davids alterations also. I was going to go to a person that had done our homecoming dresses growing up but David's recommended that I use them to make my dress perfect and clean since I bought it off the rack. I ended up paying over half the cost of my dress for very simple alterations and had so many problems with the hem being crooked, puckering, etc. I also had to fight with the lady to have her let my dress out because I gained 2 cup sizes in my boobs and gained some weight. She was refusing to do it. Ummm...excuse me, it's my dress. Awful. I would never recommed them!
@PurpleUnicorn: WEll, the double cups in my dress didn't need to be put in. When I got the dress it was way too big, and I wish they had just ordered one in my size so we could do less alterations, even though it would still probably have to have some since I'm so tiny. The woman there just kept adding more padding when it really really needed to be taken in on the sides since it was 2 sizes too big. bleh. I'm just glad I'm getting it fixed elsewhere. lol
@KLloyd1: ugh, that's awful. Yeah I don't recommend them either. I heard some horror stories about them but it was my only choice at the time. :/ that's what stinks about living in such a small area, but at least I found a way to fix it last minute!

So bees, more is being done to my dress and I get it back Nov. 30th. I'm kind of ticked off too, because I thought everything was done, after paying out the ass for the alterations I asked for. So here's the story:
Got my dress from David's Bridal. Bridesmaid dresses from a local boutique, that couldn't alter my dress since I didn't purchase it there. Had the alterations done at Davids (2 hrs away from where I live, which is the closest one to me) because there wasn't anyone local to do alterations, everyone was booked and I needed a lot done to it. (we bought the dress at David's because it was in my budget, thats another story)
So, I get the alterations done to the dress at David's Bridal. I had it hemmed, bustled, double cups sewn in, the back taken in, the sleeve fixed bc it gapped, some lace pinned back down, and the sides were supposed to be taken in as well as up by the bust because it was WAY too big.
Had this done. Paid $350, which is half of what my dress cost. That's fine, my FMIL paid for it, we thought that would be it. I go in for my final fitting...the bust was still WAY TOO BIG, it was gapping and everything. The alterations lady said that she would sew the cups in better so it wouldnt gap and it would fit properly. She did this, I took my dress without trying it on again, and I left because she was basically shoving me out of there.
On to last week...I try my dress on. It isn't fixed. It's too big in the bust and under the bust. The slip I fold down under my dress, you can see under my dress (where it was folded). It's just a mess and does not fit me. So I went to my bridesmaids alterations appt. and was telling my BM's about it. The alterations woman overheard me and said she could take care of it, and to bring it in.
I took in the dress to her today (to the local boutique, where they said before they couldn't do anything) and it's a good thing I did!!!! It has to be taken in another half inch on each side, which elminates one set of cups in the bust. The slip is going to be cut so it sits on my hips instead of having to fold it down so we dont see any lines, and it has to be taken in on the sides some to fit right.
So basically, we paid an arm and a leg at David's for nothing. It was our only option at the time, so thats why we went there. I posted pics of "my final fitting" but it really didn't fit perfectly and I was uncomfortable because you could see down the boob area. =/
But all is getting taken care of now. Just a warning to future brides though, I wouldn't recommend David's for alterations. I wish there was somewhere local I could have gone to prevent all this drama, but seriously, consider your options before making them your final choice. I know I didn't have the experience I would have liked to have. =/
