I’m in a bit of a strange situation job wise, and I’m looking for a bit of advice. I’ve been a nanny for two years, and I just recently picked up a nanny job two days per week since I’m out of school for the summer. I’ve only been working here for about two weeks, but things are a bit strange.
I have done more housework than actually playing with the boy I’m watching. I’m fine doing some work around the house, but the mom is home (doing online work) and she will call the little boy up to come down and tell me to do the dishes, laundry, etc. even if we are in the middle of playing.
it seemed like this morning that she basically has been leaving things to get dirty during the 2-4 days I’m not here for me to deal with. When I came in today there was at least two days worth of dirty dishes covered in crusty food waiting for me. When I was washing them tons of ants started crawling all over me. The boy then came down and told me to fold the laundry so I did.
The little boy (4 years) then came down and started rummaging in the fridge. I asked if he needed help, he said no. I turn back around a few seconds later and he has a steak knife and he’s trying to cut up an apple and pour a glass of milk. I helped him before he cut his finger off and he said it was his moms breakfast. I followed him upstairs to put the laundry away and she is still asleep in bed (it was noon). It is now almost 2 PM. The boy is upstairs with her and she still hasn’t gotten out of bed. I cleaned up everything, but I basically have nothing to do until I leave.
I am not really sure what I should be doing in this situation. Should I just stick it out for the summer, or tell her things aren’t working out? I’m just afraid things are going to get worse.
