Has anyone brought their invites to the B. Free P.O. down on 3rd and Market to be hand-canceled? How does it work? Do you just leave the whole box there for them? Do they turn them around that same day?

Not sure about B. Free but the Wayne post office hande cancels for free and my guests started receiving our invites the day after I mailed them from there.

Thanks, Ms. Cupcake. I was wondering about B. Free because they hand-cancel by hand and also with the "B. Free Franklin" postmark that Benjamin Franklin used when he founded the post office! I think it's a neat Philly touch. I'm just not sure if it's as easy as leaving your invites there .... I'll post here if I find out anything interesting.

    BTW, your invites are gorgeous.

I want to warn you about hand cancelling-- I had mine hand-cancelled and after all the effort only the localy delivered invites were free of machine cancellations. If your invites are leaving your area, they will almost certainly still have bar cordes all over the bottom corner. They might still get the hand-cancelled stamp over the postage though!

Thanks, Ms. Cherrypie, for the heads up. I'll get to the bottom of this! It's amazing what minutiae you learn when you're wedding-planning.

I believe the first 50 (?) are free, and the rest have a few cents charge per envelope.  You can go and leave your box with the post office, and also make sure to include one for yourself in there, so you know it was definitely handcancelled and mailed out.  They should be able to do it that day.  I heard Saturday early morning is the best.

Just a word of caution, the B. Free P.O. will not accept large numbers of invitations to be cancelled after 2:30 PM. I learned that the hard way this afternoon. I was advised by the clerk to stop by early tomorrow morning.
