This is a good article from the ASPCA regarding such things ๐Ÿ™‚ Congrats on TTC, btw, and good for you for looking up this info first – being a former SPCA worker, I saw many poor cats come in with frantic new mothers who had been needlessly terrified by well-meaning relatives.

I had two cats when I had my daughter, No problems at all. My best friend had three kids and 4 cats, never a problem. My niece has 3 boys and 3 cats and never a problem. Where such silly old wives tales come from is beyond me!

Not really, but I would PUT the cats in the playpen with her so they could snuggle together.

I had a cat when I had my son and my grandmother said simular things. Honestly my cat could care less about my son, I’ve never had any problems. He would jump in his crib only if the baby wasn’t in it. Generally my cat doesn’t like sqirmbly loud things so he avoided the baby.

We had five cats in the house when my daughter was born. They thought she was awful and steered clear entirely.

My brother’s cat loves my niece.  They are buddies and he follows her through the play tunnel etc.  I don’t know what to expect with my cat and the baby.  My cat was ferral so she’s a bit on the wild side.  She lets me pet her only when she is in her bed.  Never let’s anyone else pet her or come near her.  So this will be interesting.

We have 3 cats and it was never a problem. My cats used to go in every room too, but we put gates at the baby’s room door and at my bedroom door as well so the cats didn’t go in. We did not want them near the playpen. Now that baby is crawling, we have gates at the stairs and keep the cats away from the bedrooms floor altogether.

Honestly two cats don’t like the baby at all and never let him near them even if he would love to pull their hairs – so baby chasing cats he can never get is a great game at our house. The third cat lets him do what he wants and never bites or scratches when the baby hurts him. We always watch closely though and send the cat to another floor if the baby is too rough with him.
