Cord blood banking?

We’re trying to decide between donation and delayed cord cutting!

As a scientist I’m all for donation to research.

I just had a conversation with my midwife about this like an hour ago. I really was quite keen as im having a high risk pregnancy. Iv decided I wont go ahead with it. The cost of storage here in NZ is super expensive and the process of actually replacing the stem cells is huge and has only been done a couple of times in NZ. We will most likely just donate 🙂

I’d love to donate, but as far as I know the only place in Ontario is in Ottawa and I’m in Toronto.

My research has shown the likelihood of your baby needing their own stem cells are slim to none, as apparently some of the major diseases are already in the genetic makeup. It is much more likely to find someone else who desperately needs it if there is a public system in your area.

We are planning to bank our babies’ cord blood and tissue privately.  It’s something my own personal doctors recommended based on my personal health history and after doing my own research, DH and I decided it was a worthwhile expense.
