Hey all.  I'm editing the Baby Abbrevations page. Here http://wiki.weddingbee.com/Abbreviations#Common_Baby_Related_Abbreviations

Can you tell me what's missing?

    • AF - Aunt Flo (i.e. period)
    • BC - Birth control
    • BCP - Birth control pills
    • BD - Baby Dance (i.e. have sex)
    • BFP - Big Fat Positive
    • CD - Cloth diapers
    • DD - Dear Daughter
    • DS - Dear Son
    • HPT - Home Pregnancy Test
    • LMP - Last Mentrual Period
    • NFP - Natural Family Planning (as a birth control method)
    • NTNTC or NTNT - Not Trying Not To Conceive
    • OB - Obstetrician
    • SAHM - Stay at home mom
    • SAHD - Stay at home dad
    • SAHW - Stay at home wife
    • TTC - Trying to conceive
    • TWW - Two week wait
    • US or U/S - Ultrasound

I was browsing some threads trying to find some abbrevations.

I saw RE.  What is RE?  I found it in this thread. http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/how-many-of-us-are-using-fertility-medications

For someone will start TTC at the end of the summer, I'm new to all of these abbrevations.

    Thanks!

I also use OBC (oral birth control) which is a common abbreviation used by health professionals.

And you have a typo - TWW not TTW Smile

Isn't there also an abbrevation for Fertiliy monitor?  I don't think it's FW.  It think there is an O in it, maybe for Ovulation monitor?

ETA: Oh, what is OPK?... I think is it similar to pregnancy test.

@kirabee: Oh, thanks!  Good catch!  I'll change that.

Since you have BFP, probably should add BFN - big fat negative.

I also see LO - little one used also in reference to babies or children.

Oh, and in TTC lingo, CD is cycle day.  And DPO is days past ovulation.

I think I must be in the minority, but I find most of these abbreviations to be tiresome and kind of robotic. I don't know why everything has to be given a handy acronym.

Just personally it makes the process more like a set of directions for putting together a microwave or something than having a baby. I dunno, maybe it's just me but the "TWW" and "OPK/HPT/etc etc" terms are really kind of depressing.

Ok, I'll add them to the list. If there are any other abbrevations the list is missing, let me know! Thanks everyone!

@fiya: If you don't like using abbrevations, you are free to write out the whole word. There's nothing wrong with that.  Some of us find it easier to use abbrevations. I write out husband instead of DH sometimes if the OP is new to the site.

Along with the infertility words, you may want to add IUI (Intra-Uterine Insemination) and IVF (In Vitro Fertilization)
