I used the Playtex nursers with my oldest and will be using them again this time.
@Storm0075: That's the one with the "drop ins", correct? If so, it's not something that we want to continue to buy or have to travel with.
Yes it is. Since they collapse as the baby eats then there is less chance of gas. Plus we will be BF and I can use the same storage bags to line the bottle so there is no waste for us.
My friend used the breastflow bottles and said they worked wondefully. No problem moving from the breast to the bottle and back again and no problems with gas either. I don't think they vent so much as the baby has to use a different compression-suction motion closer to nursing to get milk, which reduces the amount of air they swallow. There are only four parts: the bottle, the outer nipple, the inner nipple, and the screw on top that holds the nipples in place.
@saraja87: I heard about those. They sound really great but we're formula feeding now and I don't know if I really need to worry about nipple confusion...
@saraja87: we have one of these and it wasn't as great as it sounded for us. A lot of milk got trapped between the outer and inner nipple (can't waste the liquid gold) and there were the extra parts to clean. We still are using the medela bottles looking for a new replacement soon. A friend of mine use Dr Brown nipples with cheap gerber bottles when she was formula feeding
@Miss Sapphire: We have both the 5oz MAM anti-colic bottles and the 9oz MAM Hold Me bottles. Even without the vent, DS has not had issues with gas due to lack of a vent on the larger bottles. I would say if baby is a few months old, you'll have less potential issue since baby is spending more time upright and able to handle more food-wise. What about the MAM baby bottle instead of the anti-colic bottle?
We use the Tommee Tippee bottles. I really like them and my daughter seems to do just fine with them.
@Pelikila: those would be ideal I was just wondering about the lack of venting. We would we moving to them at about 2 months
We used the Born Free bottles, which I really liked. The vent system is only two pieces that clicks in underneath the collar. Although it does have more parts than a non-venting bottle, I didn't mind because I wash and sanitize all the pieces in the dishwasher.
Are you doing all the washing/sanitizing by hand? I've heard good things about the Tommy Tippee bottles for a non-vented bottle that helps reduce gas.
@Mrs. Spring: The majority of the time we do wash by hand since the dishwasher never seems to be ran when I need to wash bottles. Thus my issue with all the parts...it get super annoying. Also, we'll be traveling a lot in the coming months and I wanted to go to something that didn't have so many potential leaking points...especially the bottom.
I'll look into the Tomee Tipee ones...
@L2sweetpea:i plan on using those as well. we have heard great things about them!
@MissDareDevil; We have also had no issue with nipple confusion (if you are planning on breastfeeding). She has done just fine with these bottles.
we also use Tommee Tippee and LOVE them. They do make a sensitive tummy version, but I dont know how many pieces those have. But our Liv has no issues going from breast to bottle and back with these and doesnt have gas issues
We use Avent as do most of the mommies I know...they're only 3 pieces (bottle, nipple, ring).
I used breastflow bottles and hated washing them. The inner nipple was hard to wash by hand. Then I had issues with the inner nipple cracking, so we had to switch. I wanted a bottle I could pump directly into, so I ended up with Dr. Browns. I didn't realize how many parts there were and how hard they were to wash until I got them home and DS started using them. After investing $50+ in bottles twice, we are sticking with the dr. Browns. I don't worry too much about sterilizing because we are on breastmilk and every mom I've talked to says by the second or third child, they didn't bother to do it, so I figured it's not a big deal.
I've heard great things about tommee tippee bottles, as well as born free. (If I had to switch again, I'd get the Born Free ones - easy to clean and they'd work with my pump).
Thanks everyone! I'm running up to Target to see what they have today and I also got one suggestion for the Nuk bottles. Any thoughts?
@KellyV: we ended up buying the T Tippee ones today based on the sole fact that they come with the formula dispensers! Such a nifty little thing for on the go and travel!! I hope our kiddo loves them because I'm already impressed :)
@Miss Sapphire: YAY!! arent those things great?! BEfore Liv was EBF, I had some serious supply issues so we supplemented with formula. Those dispensers were amazing. I love that they go right in the bottle!

We are currently using the MAM 5oz anti-colic bottles and really like them. Soon though, we are going to need to purchase some in a larger size (9 or 10oz) and while I like the MAM I don't know if I want to continue to clean 5 parts (the bottom is the vent and it screws on).
MAM has bottles without the screw on bottom, but they don't vent through the nipple so I didn't know if that is an OK thing or if we should be looking at another brand.
Does anyone have bottles that they really like that don't have so many parts?
