I am 9.5 weeks pregnant and over the past few days have noticed I have got a bit of a tummy, but unsure whether it is because I have gotten fatter or because this is about when you begun to develop a tummy.

How far along in your pregnancy were you when you started to develop a bit of a baby bump? I guess I just want to make sure it is more baby than fatty.

Yeah, that is not baby... yet!

Are you perhaps just more conscious of it- as you know you are pregnant?

@corrinecortez: I am trying, I have not changed my eating much at all, and am still exercising heaps. It is really weird not to be in control of my body.

Early on I felt like, constant period bloat - not like a bump but too puffy to fit into my ultra skinny jeans/work pants. I feel like that around my period but this time it gradually increased over the months.

It could be bloating or water weight.

@corrinecortez: I think every single pregnant woman realizes she needs to watch her weight. Honestly, I find it kind of weird and rude that you would say that...

OP, I doubt that it's baby bump yet. I didn't honestly start to feel the hard bump of my uterus under my skin until like... 13-14 weeks? The top of your uterus doesn't grow out of your pelvic cavity until around 12 weeks, after that is when you begin to feel it. Before that I was SUPER bloated though and I did feel like I had a bump.

Yeah, it's probably bloat/water weight at this point. Shouldn't be too much longer before you can feel it though!

Some people show earlier than others, every woman is different. My first pregnancy I didn't show until around 16-18 weeks (in there somewhere) and it was so frustrating! This current pregnancy I felt a small defined bump most definitely at 8.5 weeks, and my jeans were a little tighter. I've also actually lost some weight, so I know it's not a matter of over indulging on the ice cream either.

I think its mostly likely bloating. I had that majorly in the first trimester.  Right now at 19 weeks my bump is really small but it definitely looks and feels different from the bloat I had earlier

I am 7 weeks and I swear I am showing.  I know that is impossible but I am so bloated.  It is to the point where I have to either live in yoga pants or wear some of my pants unbuttoned. UGH.

I started showing at 8 1/2 weeks- I'm now 13 weeks and there is no question in anyones mind that I am pregnant- and I gained my first pound last week.  You could be showing, it just depends on your body.  Ask your mom and sisters if they showed early, everyone in my family has shown early, but no one put it all together until I asked.

Given that the baby is the size of a prune? at this point, it's not a "baby" bump but that doesn't mean you don't have "a" bump.  Some of it is probably bloating, some of it is your intestines and other organs getting pushed up.

I'm 5'2 and was 110 lbs pre-pregnancy.  I stopped fitting into my pants at 8 weeks - at that point, I'm pretty sure it was mainly bloat.  At 11 weeks, I stopped being able to suck in the bloat.  Now, at 13.5 weeks, I'm clearly pregnant to those who know me.  My baby is only the size of a lemon now, so it's not really the baby, but it's everything else that makes my stomach pop out.  My uterus has moved up and is firm now and I do have a small "baby" bump but a much larger stomach.  I have gained 3 lbs.

I started getting bloated almost immediately - I'm now 14 weeks and it's starting to feel more like a bump. But as others have said, your uterus is getting bigger, so other things are getting pushed up and out of the way.

thanks ladies, i'll put it down to some bloating and my uterus etc, i am short 5ft and weighed btw 110 and 113 before the pregnancy, am 119 now :(. so maybe thats why I feel like it is soo big, a small weight gain for me can make a huge diff.

@simpleandchic: don't worry about it! I have a friend your size and she showed early and gained most of her weight early. She ended up gaining 22 lbs total. She was VERY obviously pregnant by 16 weeks (she appeared about 6 or 7 months along). She's gorgeous now just a couple months post baby. Everyone is different.

I had a "bump" pretty early... around 10 weeks. It wasn't really a bump though, just bloating, it turned into a real bump later, like around 15/16 weeks maybe.

FWIW, I was really wondering about this when I was 9/10 weeks, too.  I posted a thread about petite moms showing early!  The consensus here (and on hellobee) is that if you are short/petite/have a short torso, you get a bump of sorts earlier.  There's just not much room for anything to go!  I never thought I would be in maternity pants at 8 weeks, but I was.
