My friend of 24 years is pregnant with her first child. Did I also mention that she is my boss??? She owns a law firm and called me out of the blue one day to be the office manager. Anyway, this is a much awaited baby for her and we are all very excited.
The problem is that I have no idea what to get her. And should I get her a present now, or just when the baby is born? The girl has everything and her family is huge and will get tons of stuff. When my oldest daughter was born she bought a nice frame and inside was a poem she wrote and a few pictures of my daughter and my daughter and I. My daughter is 14 years old and that frame still hangs in her bedroom.
Any ideas on a unique gift?

You know what I love to give as a gift? A gift card to a photo studio. I did this for an old boss with the intention that she would use it for newborn photos. But she decided to do a maternity shoot, which is just as lovely. I also did it for a former coworker and she ended up using it to get the “lifetime” package, which means they can take photos annually and she always mails me a picture of her little one! I think it’s really nice and something they might not think to do for themselves.

Books. Always books. With a nice note to the baby inside.

Do you know where she likes to shop for baby clothes?
I would get her a gift card from one of those places..
Seriously, you can NEVER have enough baby clothes, and she’ll be growing so fast she’ll need more clothes in a jiff.

@lolot: +1. Not a single person gave me books for my daughter and it really adds up buying them all! Especially because m daughter LOVES to read

@emviamama: I suggest looking on Etsy for something similar to what she got you 🙂

Books! I also love the photo gift card idea.

Books and a small child size bookshelf are one of my favorite gifts.
My other “go to” idea is a share of stock. You can ive something child appropriate
I avoid clothes as a I beg to differ with a pp. We always had too many clothes. Sometimes people bought something that was seasonal, like a snowsuit or bathing suit, and my kids were not the right size at the right time. Other than that, they simply were given more outfits than one child could reasonably wear.

The admin for our team had a baby last year and we got her a gift card to this service that delivers meals after the baby is born. Everybody needs to eat and we figured that would be useful for her, not having to cook!

I agree with BOOKS. Early childhood literacy is SO IMPORTANT.

If she has everything and a large family that will be getting her tons of stuff, then for sure the larger type baby items will be taken care of already. Think of smaller stuff people may overlook, like picture frames for her to put baby photos in, books, toys, baby meds, baby care kit, etc…
