Sorry I don't have any good advice, I have the opposite problem! I've spent hundreds of dollars on all sorts of wraps/slings/carriers and he hates them all... He LOVES the stoller though. So much for being a babywearing mama. Have you tried giving her a toy to play with? Does your stoller let her face you? Or does it face away from you? Maybe she prefers to see you or vice a versa. Wish I could be of more help but it might be something she just learns to accept with time.
How funny! I'd be sad if I couldn't babywear her, but I am jealous of your stroller success!
I'm so sorry! Does Ceci like mobiles? Tinylove makes a portable mobile you can attach to a stroller. Would she like this: http://www.amazon.com/Tiny-Love-Clip-Musical-Mobile/dp/B000306A3S/ref=br_it_dp_o?ie=UTF8&coliid=I11ZOM9ZM0NIWI&colid=3TLBH4M2KXMPD
Best of luck to you!
I have a couple ideas. First, do you have toys on the handlebar for her to look at? If so, maybe take them down. If not, try adding something she can look at that's noisy and interesting. Second, you could try a lullaby soother, something that plays music for her. Third, you could try putting the sunshields up on the baby seat and the stroller to make a little clamshell. She could be overstimulated, and maybe closing off her view could help. Fourth, you may want to dress her differently. Whatever clothes she's wearing may be uncomfortable in her seat. (Maybe too hot, maybe too cold.) My last thought would be to make sure you feed her right before you leave. She'll have a better chance of falling asleep.
MB is a little picky about her stroller also, sometimes she's just done being in it. But I found out she hated the toys we put on the handle bar, and she was dressed too hot for the seat. We started putting her in a short sleeved onesie with shorts and covering her with a thermal receiving blanket. We took all the toys off her bar, then we added a sound soother with white noise. She usually falls asleep now pretty quick.
Things to think about:
- Do you run at the same time every day? Maybe your baby needs a more calm quiet peaceful environment at this time for her own nap.
-It might not be the stroller the baby dislikes but the speed and the bumpiness of the ride when you are running. Does she act the same when you take her for a walk?
-Do you use a head support and something like receiving blanket rolls to keep her from being jarred around?(Sorry if not applicable but you didn't say how old she is).
-Can she see you? If not, can you turn the stroller, or her, or both, around?
Ok, so she has two go go bugs on the handle of her carseat that ordinarily she adores. She'll coo at these things for hours ordinarily. She's facing me so she can see me. I have the sun bonnet up but she gets incredibly frustrated if I close the clamshell, so we leave that open.
She's best first thing in the morning and worst in the evenings. We try to go when it's not too hot and we try to run so that the sun is never in her face.
She hates it most when we're running (Couch to 5K has a lot of run/walk) and she hates the bumpy sidewalks the most, so we run in the street mostly.
She might be hot, though we've tried to keep her lightly dressed.
She loves mobiles, so I'm going to look into that!
Will she take a pacifier in the stroller? Or is there something else you use to soothe her? I found this white noise app on my Droid that Addie LOVES. She won't take a pacifier, so it's nice to have something that soothes her when we're on the go and I can't pick her up right away (like in the car).
SO, I'm going to be debbie downer here. My son hates strollers period. I've never been able to run with him in a stroller... I really hate telling you that. When he was v. little he'd deal with the stroller where he was facing me, but he's never liked the jogger.
Could you try running with a friend? I've found that if we walk or jog with another adult or mom/baby duo that he does better, since he can see the other people that he knows. He's just so social and likes to point things out etc.
i've found that the pacifier, and now snacks help (although he doesn't get snacks in the jogger).
good luck. I think it's so great that you're running a 5k!!!
I'm not a mom, but if all else fails, is there a neighbor or friend who can watch her for an hour while you do your run ? I know I've heard a lot that it's hard to be away from your baby, but it seems like if she'd be happier chilling with a trusted somebody else, that might be an alternative.
Are there special strollers made for running? It sounds like maybe it's too bumpy - she doesn't like the bumps and running would be bumpier than walking. Maybe install some shock absorbers on your stroller (haha)... :)
@daydreamwanderer: I would, but I'm in a new town and don't know anyone. Maybe soon. And we do have the BOB which is the jogging stroller.
@Miss Starry Night: I feared this. Right now I'm running with my partner, but when I meet some people I could probably run with another mom. I thought maybe if I kept taking her she'd get used to it. But I don't want to make it a negative experience either.
@Mrs. Spring: She won't take a pacifier (or a bottle or anything else for that matter!) in her mouth. It's such a bummer!
My husband likes to run, but he read that you should not run with a stroller until the baby is a year old because his/her neck is not steady enough. Have you heard that? I am not sure if it's true but I agree maybe the stroller isn't the problem?
That's correct, unless you have the infant carseat adaptor WK. However, the AAP recommends no jogging with baby until they have good head control-- which our baby does. (We won't go off road until at least 6 months old).
Hehehe, I purchased that baby mobile for MB! Maybe she'll settle down on our runs now!
Ah, DG, I thought that might be the case. :( What about white noise? Or lullabies? Something you could play on your iPod while running?
@Mrs. Spring: We're definitely going to try. She absolutely loves music, so we'll give that a go first :)
Update: Locking the front wheel is helping somewhat. It's a pain in the butt for steering but we got through the whole run with only a few cries yesterday.
Yay, t sounds like a little breakthrough! Here's hoping it'll continue to improve!
@professorbee: I love you. So seriously. I bought this mobile you plugged, and MB loves it!! We use it all the time now. For runs, walks, in the car, when she's fussy at home, clipped to the play gym on the floor, ALL THE TIME! Thank you so much for recommending it, we finally found a toy that she looks at/plays with/listens to! The music is perfect, not too loud, not too soft, great for falling asleep to. She loves to listen to it, so she always stops crying to hear it. Thanks again!!

Help Mammas!
I've been doing the couch to 5K, but Ceci is starting to hate our runs. Today I had to stop in the middle to pick her up, she was crying so hard.
Does anyone have any tips or tricks on getting her used to it. She'd much rather be babyworn, but we can't do that while running :)
