I think you’re allowed to post what the item is?

If it is a big ticket item, it’d go back–like a crib, stroller, etc.  But if it’s something that may not have huge importance, then I’d keep it.

I’m pretty sure you can post the link to the item.

Personally I read a lot of reviews about baby items before I bought.  Some negative reviews are silly but some were quite helpful and made me think twice.

since i didn’t know much about baby gear before getting pregnant, don’t have many friends with babies, and never realized how many kinds of car seats, strollers, cribs, bottles, etc existed in the world before creating my registry, i have been relying A LOT on online reviews. i think a good rule of thumb is to pay attention to reviews in multiple places – not just where you are purchasing (target, BRU) but also youtube, babycenter, thebump, etc. I especially like youtube reviews cause people are usually not extreme in one way, and may even show off the item for you to see ahead of time. The combination of reviews from different locations is usually helpful to me — then i can see if people’s strong feelings (positive or negative) are just isolated incidences or worth taking into account.

i’d say hunt around online for awhile and if you see that the negative reviews are a trend across the board, maybe look into exchanging for something that you like and that seems to be liked by more consumers.

Considering that most of the bad reviews  (and some of the good ones) mention the same things (i.e. doesn’t hold up well to washing), I would probably return it and buy something else.  If all the bad reviews had different complaints, I might keep it, thinking that some bad experiences aren’t representative of the product.

Hm…can you take it back to the store instead of shipping it?  I’d hate for you to wash it and then it pill/fall apart.  If pilling doesn’t bother you which it won’t when you’re changing diapers in the middle of the night, then you should keep it.

@beekiss: When something is ordered online at Babies R Us, they don’t take it back at the store. It’s their policy. I know because I went to return the stoller/car seat after Moose died. They didn’t want to take it, but did after I told them what happened.

I would probably return it based on those reviews.  Is there something similar that you like just as much that can replace it?  It’s exclusive at Babies-r-Us so I had a hard time finding different reviews on another site.  I didn’t spend much time though looking.

@TheFutureMcBride: Cry  I’m really sorry…that was an unnecessary ordeal to have to go through.

I’d probably return it. I always look at reviews and if they’re about quality issues I usually return (or won’t buy) but if they’re more a preference thing (like complaints about ease of assembly) then it’s less of a concern.

Usually anything that has more than 15 reviews and half of the reviews are bad I’ll avoid it, some things end up with bad reviews just because 2-3 people complained but no one else has really written anything about it.

I would return it as well, the reviews are really consistent regarding the issue with the product, so I would think that they are accurate.

I’d return it too.

I’m like the others on here – I tend to look at reviews from multiple places, and avoid the product if there are consistently negative reviews that refer to the same quality problem.
