DH and I made decisions awhile ago, however, I'm starting to question them. (I feel like this is exactly the same as wedding dress regret. Picked too early and now questioning lol)
For a girl we were looking for something a little quirky, but without being overly "unique"
Violet Lillian
For a boy we have to go with a "J" name. DH is a J, his first son is a J, his uncles are J's. We don't want him to feel left out. The middle name is a family name that we won't switch.
Jackson Edmund
What do you think?
I like Jackson! Violet is pretty and I have never met a Violet before, so it's orginial (to me, anyway)! Nice picks. :-)
I really like both of them! I can't find a single fault. Violet is beautiful, it has old world charm without being an old lady name. Same with Lillian, and they sound lovely together.
Jackson is a great name too, I like how you can shorten it to Jack if you want, but Jackson is just as easy to say, and I like how it is spelled properly (not Jaxsen). Edmund reminds me of King Edmund of Narnia, who I think is a great character, and Edmund is nicer than Edward which is becoming crazy popular (thanks Twilight).
I think you have made great choices. :)
Jackson is a really common boys name right now so if you don't want a popular name I'd keep that in mind
I think those are great names! When we were about to have our girl, we wanted the same thing; something quirky, but not overly unusual. We went with Rowan Lilian, so I'm partial to the middle name you chose, plus our youngest boy's name is Jack, so I like that too! :)
I think your boy name is super nice!
I also love Violet! But the middle name is just "ok" to me. It sounds a little like a mouthful to me, but maybe it's because I'm Southern and added extra letters or something. ;)
I LOVE THEM BOTH!!!!!!
And totally understand the "regret" feeling after picking them early. I've even re-thought our names b/c we've had them so long already... we're sticking to them though =)
I really like both of them. I would just make sure they sound nice with your last name.
@AmeliaBedelia: Lillian is DH's grandmother's name who passed away. I think that one is going to stick too. However, I understand what you're saying. Our last name though is quite short.
@kerensa: our last name is, not common, but one that goes with everything. It's short and easy to say.
@amnystik: I wish I could stop overthinking everything lol
@mcklough: that was one of the main reasons I created this post. I feel like Jackson might be too popular but I'm having a hard time coming up with another J boy name.
@CorgiTales: oooh that's ok, maybe she'll be a violin playing genius!
@regberadaisy: do you have other suggestions for J boy names. The current one's in use - John, Joshua, Jacob, Jason, Juan, Julio, and Jaggar
I like them both. Although to be honest at first glance of Violet Lillian all I thought was vio-lin. haha. not sure that matters though :)
I like Violet as a girl's name, I think it's pretty.
Not a huge fan of Jackson though, seems to be a popular boys name lately.
I love your names, especially Violet Lillian. So sweet! Jude is my current favorite boy J name.
I like them.
I love "J" names; I think Jared & Jayden are my favourite boy J names right now.
I like both names - although I prefer Jack to Jackson, but that's only because I'm not a huge fan of using last names as first names.
For other J names - what about James? Strong, traditional and can be shorted a number of different ways - my favourite is Jaime, but you also have Jimmy or Jim.
Violet Lillian is just gorgeous. Jackson is nice, but I agree that it's very common (especially if you add in Jaxon, just Jack, etc.) Some more J name ideas:
Josiah
Jonah/Jonas
Jude
Johan/Johannes
Julian
Jeremy
Jesse
Those are great! I really love the name Jackson, actually... we wanted to use something like it, but our last name is already a "son/sen/zen" so we scrapped it. I haven't met any Jacksons yet, so I don't know that it's too common at all.
@mwitter80: Jameson is similar but not as popular.
I like both of the names you've picked.
Love the girl's name. The boy's name doesn't flow well for me, together. Separately they are nice, but together they don't quite work.
I love both Violet and Jackson! And I think Lillian is a great middle name. Perfect choices!
@mwitter80: great names. Mostly I am amused with your comparison to dress regret. NAME REGRET! It is totally going to be the most popular new thread.
I will admit that I've been in and out of name regret, but I've grown so attatched. I switched up the middle name and that made me like it again. (Maybe the equivalent of getting your dress regret dress slightly altered so you like it again). :)
@Aure: I suggested this to DH and he said that's my drink! So that one didn't stick lol.
@cvbee: I'm glad you see my comparison. They're both just totally about female doubt lol
I love them both! Especially Violet. If only I could eventually convince my FI to like that name. It's so pretty.
I second Jude and Jesse... Jesse is such a handsome old name. And not very common at all.
Love Violet!
And Jackson is super popular where I live (South), so I'm not a huge fan anymore, though I will always love Jack.
"J" names I also like: Jude, Jonas, Joaquin, James, and Mrs. Cheese named here baby James Javier, but he goes by Javi, which I think is super cute.
Not a fan of the name Violet...it's a cute name for a little girl, but I can't see someone at 53 as a Violet.
I think Lillian Violet sounds better than Violet Lillian, at least standing alone without knowing your last name. Also although I do think Violet is a pretty name, I am not sure it passes my personal name test of does it sound good with "Dr." or "Judge", ha.
I think John Edmund flows really well and is less trendy than Jackson. I do like the name Jackson though if you are not concerned about it being in vogue right now.
@mwitter80: I really like the name Violet!
Violet Lillian makes me think of American Horror Story because the daughter's name is Violet and the mom's name is Vivien.
I really like the name Jack, although it is very common. I think of Jackson as a last name still - even though I know it is a popular first name these days.
@kate169: It's funny you say that becuase my grandmothers good friend was named Violet and she was 80. I always thought of it as a older name.
I really like those names! Although I think I'd prefer the girl's name as Lillian Violet instead of Violet Lillian.
@Mrs.KMM:@smyley:@laurelina: Regarding Lillian Violet. We would have loved to use that and it was our original plan. However, my sister named her first daughter Lily. We actually debated about even using is as the middle name at all, but it was so important to DH, so we are going to.
@bells: Right before your post I mentioned that Lily is my nieces name. It would be a little weird to have Lily and Lillian.
I love Violet Lillian so soft and pretty. Not crazy about Jackson. My fav J names right now are Jonas, Julian and Jace.
I love the name Violet, and mostly any flower name. I like the name Jack a lot too, not so into Jackson. I think you should stick with your names!!
I really love Violet. I've loved it since Ben Affleck and Jennifer Gardner's first daughter.
I also really like Jackson. It's not that common here in CA. I agree with PP that Jackson Edmund is a little awkward to say but I wouldn't let that stop me.
