I was just thinking after TheFutureMcBride's post on popular baby names, that I haven't heard many of them in person, although they are supposed to be very common. What names have you've actually heard on a child you know?
And let's stick with under 5 years old?
Ainsley
Madison
Jayden
Kayden
Mae
Eli
Benson
Maggie
Jackson
Brinley
Brooks
Bryce
Lilli
Jonah
Noah
Aubrey
Tate
Ruby
Reed
Brock
Emma
Elijah
Nala
Jayden
Jocelyn
Brian
Josephine
Emmelle
Liberty [as a boys name]
Michael
Abigail
Stephanie
Connie
Jeffrey
A BAZILLION -AYDENS. Aidan, Kayden, Jayden, Brayden. OMG enough.
I know 3 Lukes being born this year.
So many Noahs.
And a lot of "Grace"s for middle names. I know four little girls with that middle name, all under 3.
I don't know a lot of babies, but here's some I've run into lately.
Boys
Jacob
Tyler
Liam
Gabriel
Benjamin
Girls
Isabella
Kayla
Emma
Grace
I don't really know any 5 or under kids, so I haven't paid attention to names. Also, I've hidden all my friends on facebook as soon as they announced their pregnancy.
A lot of Noah's and quite a number of Griffen's for boys names. Haleigh (Hailey) is pretty prevalent for girls.
@ohheavenlyday: I'm with you on the -en / -an epidemic! I have 2 friends who totally bought into it. One has a Brycen and Kayden, the other has a Kaydan and Jayden. Why??? These kids are all like 5-7 now, though, so maybe it has actually moved on. Let's hope!
Grayson, Braden, Caden, basically anything with an "an", "on" or "en" on the end.
I'm hearing a lot of Addyson, Addison, basically just variations on "Madison" and Addeleine, Addelyn, variations on "Madeline"
And of course, the Twilight names. Edward, Jacob, Bella, Isabella, Annabelle, and so on and so forth.
Thankfully the Nevaeh trend seems to be dying out.
Girls
Adalyn (3 of them!)
Miayla
Bridget
Meredith
Chloe
Lillian
Mya
Harmony
Ella
Maddelyn
Boys
Carter
John
Kazden
Tyrus
Harrison
Cole
William
Dylan
Mason
Collin
Kreyon
Jack
Liam
I love the name Shia for a girl...I know that was random but I saw a post about names and couldn't resist. lol
Well Im going to go by my niece's and nephews' and younger cousins' names....
Eloise
Ruthie
Sullivan (aka Sully)
Desmond
Reese
Owen
Graham
@ohheavenlyday: watch this, you shant be sorry.
ALL YOUR KIDS ARE NAMED THE SAME THING!!!
I try to forget my son's classmate's names.
I do remember a Nevaeh, Grace, Aden, Blake, LOTS OF HUNTERs, Ivy, lots of names ending in "den" and many other oddball names that I look at and cringe.
There's also Liberty, Storm, Chance, Gage, and several others I can't remember.
hmmm - im am just getting to that age where my friends are either getting married or having babies. so here are a few i've heard
Girls: Naomi, Eliana, Leighton
Boys: Graham, Cash(my nephew! it took some getting used to but i love it), Jayden, Luke
I know of two Jaxon's, and one Jackson. And pretty much everyone else named their kid Jayden Ayden Braden Kaden Cadence Jayda Brady etc all the names that sound the same. And I know 3 Maddison's, which is weird because when I was in jr high I had a cat named Maddison and I always associate that name with a smelly pet :S
Boys
Chase
Ryan
Peter
John Paul
Lukas
Mattjias
Mikolas
Tristan
Samuel
Girls
Francesca
Ester
Lindsay
Talia
Jenna
Tigan
Sophie
I know two Noah's. And then a ton of those -aden/-aeden names. And a handful of Lilli's.
I am honestly surprised Madison has stuck around this long. It feels so early 90s trendy to me, like Tiffany or Kimberly. That being said, I know two of them AND an Adalynn, so you're right with those.
*scrolling through Facebook to jog my memory*
Boys: Caleb, Gabriel, Parker, Ryan, Harrison, Noah, Nathan, Landon, Ian, Isaac, Domenic, Jackson, Henry, and lots of variations of the "-ayden" names (Aiden, Brayden, Cayden/Kayden, Hayden, Jaden/Jadian)
Girls: Olivia/Alivia, Liliana, Maya, Mia, Addison, Isla, Bella (short for Isabella or Arabella), Reese, Taylor, Ava, Arianna, Amalia, Alexis, Laney, Ivy, Emma, Jamie, Sydney, McKenzie
@ohheavenlyday: Yeah it's so funny back in the day my class was all "Kimberly" and "Jennifer" and "Ashley" and now those names are the odd ones out.
Jackson
Aiden/Hayden/Jayden/Gayden
Grace
Callie/Kali
Lily
Ava/Ada
Isabelle/Isabella
Emma
Madison
Hunter/Fischer/Forrest
and my personal (least) favorite:
River, Storm, Ocean, Skye (siblings)
I'm in the phase where all our friends are either getting married or having babies too! Here's the line up so far:
Boys: Aiden, Athan, Jacob, Gavin, Cloud, Kolton, Brandon
Girls: Olivia, Adrianna, Leah, Giselle (Elle for short), Claire, Alexis, December Rain (because she was born in December on a rainy day - poor girl!!)
Boys: Grayden, Soooo many jacksons, carter, camden, jayden
Girls: Riley, Liv, Willow, Bailey, Addison, Madison, Emme (pronounced Emmy)
Isn't it ironic that people are naming their kids these things because they think they are different and don't want their kid to have a common name? I've seen posts like that on here and facebook. I think a lot of these "different" and "uncommon" names are going to end up being just as popular as Jessica and Ashley were for the previous generation.
Boys: Lots of Aidens & Ashtons
Girls: LOTS of Madisons, and I hear Brooklyn is getting pretty popular too, although I just know 1.
@helenberrycrunch: Are they starting a re-vamp of the old Captain Planet shows??

Edit: It didn't post the rest of my comment which said that Thor's name is pronounced Tor and he's from Norway, so maybe that's how they pronounce it in Scandinavian countries.
Well I tried to be orginal with Cash, haha, but ended up being not soo original. But hey, I can't be blamed that a celebrity named their kid Cash after my son was born.
I feel like no matter what you can't win, so name your kid whatever you like, and if its popular great, if its original great, we all are too hard on eachother sometimes.
There seems to be a lot of names ending with "a"
