We are TTC for our third and have some names that we love, but are becoming very popular. Our oldest is an Abbie and has always had other Abbys in her class, which is a pain so we try to pick names that aren't so popular.
The ones we curently love, but think they are becoming too popular include Max, Jack, and Brooke. We both love Myles and now it is becoming more common too, but I think we might like it so much we would still use it.
Any names you would use if it wasn't popluar?
Aiden, I love it. But dammit I'm sick of it. And the Jayden's and Hayden's and Kaiden's UH! I'm sorry, they've become so mainstream and unoriginal, they really piss me off.
Ava was my top girl name but it's so high on those popularity lists! I'm frustrated because it was one of the few baby girl names my FI and I could agree on.
If it weren't for Twilight I would have used Jacob in a heartbeat. I also love Aidan, but that's off our list as well.
I loved the name Isabella way before Twilight and now I refuse to use it. I always loved Sophie too and I still might use it anyway.
@chittychittybanebane:Jackson is our boys name we have "reserved" ahahahahahaha. We still plan on using it no matter how popular it becomes. FI has ALWAYS wanted to name his first born son, Jackson. :-D
Brooklyn... we both LOVE NY so we talked about the name Brooklyn but it's just popping up everywhere around here now.
I LOVE Jacob, but alas it has been bastardized by Twilight.
Also any form of Khayla, Jayla, and Braylen, Jaylen, Jaden, Aiden, Kayden,
Matter of fact ALL names that can be spelt with K (thank you Kardashians): Khloe, Kourtney, Kim, Kayla, Kaylen, Kennedy, kris, Kristian, Kristopher, Kim. UGH.
I love older names, especially for girls, but it seems those kinds of names have rocketed up the charts in recent years (Ava, Sophie/ia, Olivia, Audrey, Emma, etc...)
I remember when I was in school there were like 4 Jennifers and 3 Melissas and 4 Staceys in every class...I think in 5-10 years it'll be like that again with this new wave of names.
@JamieinMN: I cringe when I see kid's name spellings like that. The names we have in mind aren't terribly popular, so that's a good thing. What's funny is that I really like one of our friend's name. We talked about it and may use it depending on the forces that be.
Jacob was a top boy name long before Twilight.
My brothers wife wanted to name her daughter Olivia but thats become way popular.
@JamieinMN: SO HAVE WE! But with a Jaxson... and now my HS friends just named theirs that with the same spelling!!
We may have to use it anyway
I have wanted to name my daughter Sierra since I was little (it was my grandmother's name that I never met). I thought it was so unique and original but now it seems to be very popular. Boo!
@Aubergold: Co-sign to every name you wrote. Personally, I like the name Jacob. Twilight will hopefully be forgotten in a decade or a generation, so that the name returns to be a Biblical name only.
My 2 that I mourn the most are Audrey and Charlotte. I refuse to name the baby anything in the top 100. I know what a PITA it is to have a very common name.
I've always loved Jackson and Amelia but unfortunately both are becoming popular. I don't think I'd ever go with Jackson just because I know like 12 of them but Amelia isn't too popular in my circle so I'd still consider it. I'd just be worried she'd be 1 of 5 in her class which is totally sucky.
I always loved Jacob, it's also my last name - so I always figured that I would name my son Jacob and have DH's last name. But we took my last name when we got married so that's out! lol
Love Emma for a girl but struggled with how popular it is. But just found out we're having a boy so no worries about that (and we had a backup name for Jacob).
Olivia, Abigail, Henry, Edward (damn twilight). Edward is still going to make it in there as a middle name since its both my grandpa's name, FI's middle name & FIL's middle name.
I loved the name Bella before Twilight ruined it :( I'm sure there are others too, but that is the one I can think of ATM lol
@UpstateCait: I don't think that Amelia's too popular. We're hoping for a girl when we TTC to name her that. I think it was definitely made popular by Doctor Who, but that's not stopping us from naming a hopeful daughter that.
@bebefly: I'm not a huge Twilight fan/follower but my DH's name is Edward Jacobs lol
Harper was my number 1 name and is a family name. Now? No way. Won't use it. I'm in love with the name Avery but the meanings I keep finding say elf counselor, elf leader, junk like that, and FI and I are both short so I find it disturbing. It also says it's the masculine form of Alfred. Gross.
Jackson for sure, It was on DH's list. It seems like as soon as we told others we liked that name, everyone had a Jackson. So this time we are keeping our choice locked down.
I love the name oliver but I think its becoming way popular too. :(
I've loved Ava since I was in college...and I love almost every girl name in the top 20 right now! I like Aiden a lot too for a boy. I had a very popular 80s name so I could never be called by just my first name in school, it was always my first and last name and I hated it, so I promised myself my kid would have a somewhat unique name.
@SFreeman2187: I like the name Harper! Shame our Conservative PM's last name is Harper. Totally renders it unusable. Plus, I totally agree, getting very popular as well.
I've always loved the name Sarah, but I know about ten million of them, so that's not going to happen.
Love the name Emma <3... so popular though.
If we ever have another kid, I hav no idea what we'd name him/her. Cash is our one sons name. I don't really care if its that popular, and sometimes you just can't avoid it anyways.
My sister named her son Aiden, and like 2 years later is became sooo popular. But when she did it, he was the only Aiden we knw, and it was so " original" at the time.
My baby names are poppy or maisie for a girl, murray for a boy, and blair for either. My FI might not end up liking them but none of them are on any list! SCORE!!!
I used to like grace, but now its really popular. My sister likes madison, which is on the america list but not the UK so she could get away with it. Its funny how some names are so common! No wonder celebrities go mad with names!
@SFreeman2187:i LOVE the name Harper and so do two of my friends... until the flipping beckhams named their new kid that.... i fear for that name now.. :(
@linguo42: it's definitely a classic! (of course, I'm a bit biased ;))
I agree with @Melanie11 the older girls names that I love are all off-limits due to popularity. Ella, Sophia, Emma.. such a shame!!
@chittychittybanebane:Yeah, I love Jackson. One, I was born in Jackson, Mississippi. And two, I love Jack as a nickname but I don't like it as the given name. Plus, most people don't remember that Jack is short for John so it makes sense to use Jackson instead. I've loved it as a boy's name for so long that I was actually surprised when it became common.
@bebefly: Hehehe. I figured it counted because it's the name that just won't go away. Is it too much to ask for a lull in popularity? ;)
I don't know how widespread it is yet, but I love Annabelle..of course, FI is one of three boys, so it's doubtful we'll have a girl anyway!
Ava Rose. I thought of this name when I was like 15. Now it's WAY too popular. :(
