I just went to a shower that had light lunch/appetizers and everything was delicious and perfect for a girly party!!!
-little sandwiches (cut small, because that's how girls like to eat them) in a variety of cheeses, meats, and breads
-fancy breads with butter (the little individual cartons of it)
-fruit salad
-traditional salad
-fancy drinks, like sparkling pomegranate juice
-cookies, pastries
-cake
I love me a good mini sandwich ... bonus points if its in the shape of a triangle.. things just taste better in triangles.
@amnystik: MY SIL threw my baby shower, and I ignored everything else and went right for the brownies and red velvet cupcakes. Oh, and the lemonade.
Come to think of it, maybe I'm just recreating my shower haha!
I like the sandwich idea because it's at 2 and some people will have eaten already. Maybe instead of doing the typical cold cut and cheese thing do something a little different like those cucumber tea sandwiches? If you search tea sandwiches on foodtv.com you get a bunch of options. A nice antipasto and a cheese plate would be good too. Oooh spinach salad!
okay I'm not really helping narrow anything down... but it sounds like you're wanting to be creative, I think doing the typical veggie with dips, salads, sandwiches and platters but with different unexpected variations would be fun :)
Agreed on the sandwiches! I think I want them on croissants instead of just reg bread.
Then maybe a couple of cheese balls (everyone always seems to like them around here)
baby spinach salad
red velvet cupcakes & brownies b/c @katyelle got me craving them
& My grandmother made a fruit "baby carriage" for my friends shower so probably one of those

Definitely lemonade to drink & I like MissDareDevils "fancy drinks"
yum! Now I'm hungry! lol
@amnystik: tea sandwiches! and i love the 80s watermelon basket :P
I'm thinking you might want another option that's a bit more substantial than sandwiches. I think most people that attend showers expect some sort of meal. I would consider 2pm to be lunch time...I think I'd be disappointed if my only food option was sandwiches. What about baked ziti or lasagna with meatballs? Those are relatively easy options and they're always a crowd pleaser.
My aunt just threw mine at her country club yesterday, also at 2 PM, and she had them put out little sandwiches, cupcakes, chocolate covered strawberries, cookies, punch and coffee. You don't need to do too much food since it's not really a mealtime, but those snacks seemed to be a hit.
Agree with all who say little sandwiches, mini dessrts, fruit, etc... 2 pm is past lunchtime for EVERYONE, and mini foods are perfect for those who want to nibble on a little snack. Anything bigger would most likely just go to waste.

We've set the date and time & now for the planning.... Shower is after lunch at 2pm, what kind of foods do you ladies think we should have?
Right now I'm having trouble not thinking of having EVERYTHING so I thought you ladies might be able to help me be a little more realistic. lol
