How many drinkers will be attending?

MrsD41503:  I think that’s fine. 84 beers/20 possible drinkers comes out to 4 beers each and thats not even counting that some ppl might prefer wine over beer…

The general rule I hear for this kind of event (as opposed to a specifically-booze-focused event like a camping trip) is 2 drinks per person for the first hour, one each additional hour. So 2 + 1 + 1 = 4 drinks per person, generally safe to do half wine half beer. Sure, some people may not drink, but I wouldn’t stray SUPER far from that.

(For the record, that’s the same formula my friends use for their baby showers, but generally with just wine and cheap champagne instead of beer. Plus sparkling cider, etc.)

I would probably get 60 cans. That said, if you want to over buy in order to cover your bases, just buy from a liquor store that allows for returns of unopened units (usually unopened cases). That way you are not stuck with more beer than you know what to do with.
