What would you give an out of town mommy to be as a baby shower gift?
She will be driving about 20 hours with her hubby to her parents for a two week long visit. Her mom and sisters are hosting the shower. And then she is flying back home.
A gift card and a small gift she can put in her suitcase? Something off the registry delivered to her house/the store where she lives? Her registry isn’t very big anyway, but I know there are 20+ people attending the shower.
Also – gender neutral. They aren’t finding out sex of the baby.

@jlc3: i am goign to a baby shower saturday and got something from the registry to be delivered to their home in a different state. That was the main present, but just so she’d have something small to open i got a card and a fisher price rattle/bite-y thing. So it wouldnt be an effort to stuff it in a suitcase

I would send something from their registry to their home and print off a picture from the website to add to a card.

I would either ship something or go with cash/gift card considering she has to fly home. If each piece of luggage is going to cost her money AND she has to stay within 50 lbs, a little tangible gift from each guest will definitely add up.

@jlc3: I just did this earlier this month only I was flying in from out of town & my SIL was driving to her home town for the shower. So they would have to pack the car to get all of baby girl’s presents home and I had to fly to the party. Either way neither of us had a lot of room for a present. I ordered her main gift off of their registry & then gave her a card & a small gift at the shower. When she was opening my present she also mentioned outloud to her guests that we had mailed them a breast pump, it was nice of her to share that. It was a book baby shower so the people that had sent gifts via the registry still brought the book plus the print out of what they bought her. It seemed to work out well.

I agree with PP. Ship the gift to their home, but order it so it doesn’t get there too early before the shower. Give a book as a card and list your present with a picture if you like. I love the handwritten notes in the books! So personal and fun to read later. 🙂

@jlc3: I live in NC and am flying to California for my baby shower. I’m hoping most gifts will be purchased off our registry and sent to our home in NC, and that people will print out a picture of what they gifted us to be opened at the shower.

I like the idea of ordering from the registry and shipping either to the their hometown store or home. I would also bring a small gift to the shower for mom to open like a book or a portable sound spa machine. I am plugging the one I just got yesterday that is now attached to my dipaer bag but can be attached to the stroller, car seat, playmat, bed, or just set on a table. I LOVE it. It plays music, has a nature sound, white noise feature, and heartbeat. It also comes with volume control and what seems to be a timer. And it came with batteries. I heard a lot of good things as well about the sleep sheep and the glow worm/seahorse… smaller type toys she can stuff in her bag.

Wow – thanks guys! I’ve been away from the Bee for a couple of days, sorry for the late reply!
You know I never even thought about the idea of printing off what I got her from the registry to include with the card. I think I will do just that. If I do bring a small gift too I will make sure it’s either soft (like sleepers that can be rolled up) or very very small.

@jlc3: have something delivered to her house. bring a card to the baby shower with a print out of the item inside the card.
i’ve seen that done at wedding and baby showers.
