They took the time to pick out and purchase a gift for you. You should take the time to write personalized thank you cards.

eecuadrado:  I think it depends on the announcement, but you could save yourself some postage and write a nice note on each card thanking everyone individually for their presence/gifts.  I’m not sure if it’d be ok to send birth announcements in lieu of thank you cards though.

Not a good idea. Sit down and get those thank-you notes done.

You need to do the thank you cards. I don’t think baby announcements in lieu of thank you cards is considerate.

Yeah, good idea to just get the cards out! My bridal shower was Sunday, I send cards out Monday! I sent out about 20 cards and it really didn’t take that long to sit down and just get them done while watching TV.

Yep, do’em now! They’ll be impossible to get them out when you’re caring for a newborn and sleep deprived. Or if you have surgery, like I did ….

eecuadrado:  I think that’s a good idea It really is a personal thing when I get a thank you note and believe you me I remember when I get people gifts for bridal/baby/birthdays and don’t get a note. Maybe it’s the snob in me but my mother always made us hand write thank you notes and now as I’m older I really do appreciate getting them.
